I am excited to share some good news with you today about two initiatives that the Board of Governors approved yesterday.
First, Missouri Western State University will offer a new benefit to full-time benefit eligible employees beginning Nov. 1: Paid Parental Leave. It’s vital that parents have the opportunity to care for and bond with their child following birth, adoption or guardianship, so we’re proud to offer new parents time off with pay. Please see the attached policy for full details. I’d like to thank the leadership in the Faculty Senate and Staff Association for working to bring this long anticipated policy to reality.
Second, the University has agreed to lease a section of our land (on the south side of Mitchell Avenue near Interstate 29) to the City of St. Joseph for the construction of a new fire station. In consideration for the use of the land, the City will pay for the construction of a new station for our University Police Department on the same tract of land. I’ve talked a lot about community partnerships since my arrival, and this is a great example of what can be accomplished. We are leveraging one of our unique assets – our large campus – to both serve our community and construct a needed facility for the University at no cost to us.
Add these two items to the long list of great things happening at Missouri Western. It is truly an honor to serve alongside you as we strive for excellence. Go Griffs!
