Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enroll in a dance course more than once? Yes.
Do I have to have dance training before I take a classes? No. Courses are open to students with or without a background in dance. Some courses have prerequisites or require permission of the instructor.
What do I wear to dance class? Each class syllabus has guidelines for dance attire and shoes. Attire varies from dance clothes to pedestrian/street clothes you can move in depending on the course content. Ballet and Tap shoes are required for for Basic Tap and Ballet courses.

I think the best thing about the dance classes offered at Western is that they are for all different levels of dancers. I personally have been dancing since I was two and I still felt pushed to learn new things when I took tap 1!"

Being a non-trained dancer before taking these classes, it was a great way to learn basic dance techniques in several different styles of dance. For the more experienced dancers, it was a great way from them to re-visit the basic techniques of dance."

Tap Dance I (DAN 110)
unnamed-1 This is a beginning-level dance course in tap dance. Steps and methods of tap including dance terminology and rhythmic awareness, coordination, clarity of sound and tap styles. Prereq-DAN101 or permission of instructor.

Ballet (DAN 114)
DSC_0325 A beginning-level dance course in classical ballet technique. Emphasizes discipline, coordination, musicality, strength and flexibility. Includes barre, centre, adagio, allegro and reverence. Prereq- DAN 101 or instructor approval. Proper attire- ballet shoes are required.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00-12:20pm
Dance Improvisation (DAN310)
dance-2 Come explore spontaneous choreography and movement. Studies include solo and group improvisation as well as in-studio work. Prereq- DAN 112 or DAN 212 or instructor approval.
