In this program you will learn through a trauma-informed, applied-learning framework that ensures all individuals, families and communities can achieve justice and improved well-being. The program is committed to the guiding principles of competency and addressing health disparities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within this program, you will be introduced to Social Work\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/grandchallengesforsocialwork.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grand challenges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0where you will be taught to practice with a strength-based integrity, competence and client-centered care within a framework of trauma responsiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This program is held in person on Missouri Western\u2019s campus. Classes will meet once per week with an online component. You can apply for the advanced standing plan of study If you already have your Bachelor of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited university with a 2.75 or above GPA, or the traditional plan of study if you have a bachelor&#8217;s degree from a regionally accredited university with a 2.75 or above GPA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Click <a Social Work Admissions Committee (composed of all full-time program faculty members) reviews the following student information for evaluating admissions into the social work style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statement of Purpose: A one-page narrative which describes your purpose for seeking admission to a graduate program, as well as what you hope to gain from the experience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transcripts of all previously completed university level work \u2013 both undergraduate and graduate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Criminal background checks will be required. An applicant who has been found guilty of a Class A or B felony will not be admitted.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your GPA was below a 2.75 you may be conditionally admitted and must earn a 3.0 GPA after the first nine graduate hours for full admission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon admission, all social work students will be provided with and are expected to read<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MWSU Student Code of Conduct<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Code of Ethics of the<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Association of Social Workers (NASW), <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Substance Use Policy<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Students will then be asked to electronically sign an acknowledgment that they: (1) have read these documents, (2) are aware of their contents, and (3) will abide by the standards elaborated in the documents. The form will be kept in students\u2019 files.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Part-time Social Work Students\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Both Advance Standing and Tradition plans of study may be completed as a part-time student. All potential transfer students must send an official transcript from each college and university attended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Missouri Western adheres to the guidelines of the Missouri Articulation Agreement. Transfer course work is evaluated and awarded on the same basis as credit awarded at MWSU. Consequently, a criterion used to evaluate currently enrolled Missouri Western students is equally applicable to transfer students. Transfer Guidelines are reviewed annually and updated on a regular basis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Missouri Western\u2019s social work program will accept social work courses from other CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work programs, only if they are considered equivalent to the Missouri Western social work program\u2019s major requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The student&#8217;s social work advisor or the program director will determine whether courses transferred from another university will be considered equivalent to the required classes in the Social Work major. The advisor will consult with faculty members from other departments as necessary to make this decision. Courses accepted for transfer must be similar in content and credit value to those they replace. <\/span><b><i>Missouri Western\u2019s social work program will only accept social work courses transferred from CSWE-accredited social work programs.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All transfer credits must be approved by the graduate program director and the Graduate Dean, and will be counted in the calculation of the graduate GPA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exceptions to these rules, including the possibility of allowance of up to twelve total transfer credits, or other modifications must receive approval by the graduate program director and Graduate Dean.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-modal modal fade modal-1 personal\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"dialog\" aria-labelledby=\"modal-heading-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><style type=\"text\/css\">.modal-1 .modal-header, .modal-1 .modal-footer{border-color:#ebebeb;}<\/style><div class=\"modal-dialog modal-lg\"><div class=\"modal-content fusion-modal-content\" style=\"background-color:#f6f6f6\"><div class=\"modal-header\"><button class=\"close\" type=\"button\" data-dismiss=\"modal\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&times;<\/button><h3 class=\"modal-title\" id=\"modal-heading-1\" data-dismiss=\"modal\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Personal Statement<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"modal-body fusion-clearfix\">\n<p>As part of your admission application to the social work program, please prepare a \u201cpersonal statement\u201d that addresses the areas listed below. The Admissions Committee will use the summary to assess your basic writing skills and to help them arrive at a decision about your admission application. Your type-written summary should be approximately four-five pages in length and double-spaced.\u00a0<strong>Personal Statement Outline<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discuss your\u00a0<strong>perceptions<\/strong>\u00a0of the social work profession.<\/li>\n<li>Discuss at least\u00a0<strong>two major reasons<\/strong>\u00a0you chose to pursue a social work career.<\/li>\n<li>Describe your\u00a0<strong>successes<\/strong>\u00a0in school, work, and your personal life.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the\u00a0<strong>barriers<\/strong>\u00a0you have had to overcome to pursue your educational, work, and\/or personal goals.<\/li>\n<li>Describe your\u00a0<strong>experiences<\/strong>\u00a0working with people (voluntary and\/or paid). Co-located programs, institutions with both baccalaureate and master&#8217;s social work programs seeking candidacy and initial accreditation, are accredited separately. Each program level must complete separate candidacy processes, including submitting separate documents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">Students who enter programs in Pre-Candidacy that attain Candidacy in the academic year in which they begin their program of study will be retroactively recognized as having graduated from a CSWE-accredited program once the program attains Initial Accreditation.
