On December 24, 2022, while the region experienced extreme cold temperatures, a sprinkler system pipe cracked on the third floor of Vartabedian Hall causing a water leak, which resulted in extensive damage to each floor in the building.

Unfortunately, with this type of disaster, the restoration process will be intrusive and lengthy. Significant portions of the building will be inaccessible, creating environmental and safety concerns.

When were Vartabedian residents notified about the situation?2023-01-23T09:10:39-06:00

All Vartabedian residents were notified within hours of the disaster.

Students who were approved to be on campus during winter break received additional communication and were relocated to other on-campus housing immediately.
Once relocation plans were in place, impacted residents were notified and given instructions for moving out of Vartabedian Hall and moving into their new residence hall.

What is happening to Vartabedian Hall?2023-01-23T09:10:20-06:00

Vartabedian Hall will be closed for the spring 2023 semester for repairs.

External contractors who specialize in this type of disaster mitigation were brought in to determine the full extent of the damages caused by the water leak. Based on their assessment of the situation, it is clear that, due to the location and amount of damage caused, repairs will be extensive.

Unfortunately, with this type of disaster, the restoration process will be intrusive and lengthy. Significant portions of the building will be inaccessible, creating environmental and safety concerns.

Your mail will be forwarded to your new residence hall.

How will any differences in price for each residence hall be handled?2023-01-23T08:59:18-06:00

Your student account will be adjusted according to the price difference between Vartabedian Hall and your new residence hall. You will have the option of applying the difference toward your current meal plan, a new meal plan, or your overall balance.

On your student account, you will see:

  • A Vartabedian Hall Adjustment that displays as a charge.
  • This adjustment (the differential between Vartabedian Hall and your current residence hall) is not a charge that you are responsible for paying. Instead, these funds are being held on your account and may be applied toward your current meal plan, a new meal plan, or your overall balance.
