Frequently Asked Questions

What certifications are required for your staff? All Recreation Services Staff are trained in American Red Cross CPR. The Baker Family Center Staff are trained in American Red Cross CPR as well as the AED. All Lifeguards must have Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid prior to being hired.

At what temperatures do you keep your pools? We keep the pool at 82-85 degrees.

Do you allow recreational swimmers to use the diving board? Yes, recreational swimmers are allowed to use the diving board as long as they follow the swimming pool rules. Click here to see the list of swimming pool rules.

How much does it cost to use Recreation Services Facilities? Students must be enrolled in one (1) credit hour. Faculty and Staff use our facilities as another benefit. Alumni members who want to use our facilities must purchase a membership. Community members who want to use our facilities must purchase a membership through Gold Coat Club.

Does a fitness assessment or program development cost anything? NO, as long as you are a valid card holder at Baker Family Center.

Can I hire a personal trainer at the Baker Family Center? We do not allow personal training to take place at the center. We can set-up a program for you and give you an orientation on the equipment, but we can not meet with you on a regular basis to personally train you.

Can I bring a guest? Students, Faculty and Staff may bring one guest with them per visit when using Recreation Services Facilities. Guests must bring a photo ID and must stay with the valid ID holder. Guests leave when the member they are there with leaves. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that his/her guests know and understand the rules of Recreation Services Facilities.

Do you provide towels or personal hygiene products? No, we do not provide patrons with towels or personal hygiene products.

Why are towels not available? Due to the cost, we cannot afford to have towels available to patrons.

How do I know if there has been a change in your operating hours? All changes in the schedules will be posted. At the Looney Complex we will post the schedule changes at the Recreation Services Center (roll-up window located on the first floor by the main entrance of the building). At the Baker Family Center we will post schedule changes at the Front Desk.

If the campus is closed for inclement weather, will Recreation Services be closed as well? Recreation Services (Looney Complex Fieldhouse and Baker Family Center ) will be closed if the campus shuts down for inclement weather.

What happens if I forget or lose my ID? A valid ID must be presented to use the Recreation Services Facilities. IF you do not have an ID, you will not be permitted to use our facilities.

Can we bring beverages or food to the facilities? Food, tobacco, glass bottles and cans are not allowed in the Recreation Services Facilities. Water in a plastic container is the only beverage allowed in our facilities.

Is chalk powder allowed when lifting weights? NO, chalk powder is not allowed. However, you can check with the coordinator for alternatives.

What are your rules on wardrobe at the Baker Family Center ?

Tennis shoes must be worn at all times.
No sandals or open toed shoes.
No jeans or jean shorts.
T-shirts and tanks must be worn at all times.
Shirts must meet the top of the pant line.
Bathing suits are required to use the Swimming Pool.

How old do you have to be in order to use the Baker Family Center ? NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 12 IS ALLOWED in the Baker Family Center . A person 12-15 years of age must be closely monitored by an adult at all times while in the weight room and throughout the center.
