He elaborates on some of the ideas he developed in his essay \u201c\u2019In Search of \u2026\u2019 Friendship: What We Can Learn from Androids and Vulcans\u201d (in <em>The Ultimate Star Trek and Philosophy: The Search for Socrates<\/em>\u00a0edited by Kevin S. Decker and Jason T. Eberl).<\/p>\n<p>It was Dr. Okapal&#8217;s second appearance on the podcast. On the May 21 episode, <a href=\"https:\/\/ithinkthereforeifan.com\/2019\/05\/21\/from-the-pca-the-purple-replicant-of-cairo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;The Purple Replicant of Cairo,&#8221;<\/a> he was one of four &#8220;prominent scholars of philosophy and pop culture&#8221; interviewed at the annual meeting of the Popular Culture Association.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Okapal&#8217;s research has focused on the intersection of ethics and literature, especially science fiction and fantasy. He has been at Missouri Western since 2005. He earned his bachelor&#8217;s degree at the Ohio State University, a master&#8217;s degree at Bowling Green State University and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p><em>Missouri Western State University is a comprehensive regional university providing a blend of traditional liberal arts and professional degree programs.
