{"id":4031,"date":"2015-10-26T14:41:15","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T19:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/news\/?p=4031"},"modified":"2019-06-04T16:21:51","modified_gmt":"2019-06-04T21:21:51","slug":"faces-of-change-photographer-speaks-nov-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/news\/2015\/10\/26\/faces-of-change-photographer-speaks-nov-3\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Faces of Change&#8217;: Photographer Speaks Nov. 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/10\/Vedros1.jpg\"><\/a> Copyright Nick Vedros 2015\n<p>Nick Vedros, an internationally known commercial photographer, will present slides of photos he took of Kansas prison inmates at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 in the Fulkerson Center at Missouri Western State University. \u201cFaces of Change\u201d is part of the Peace and Conflict Lecture Studies and is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Vedros\u2019 list of clients includes Apple, McDonalds, Bayer, Capital One, Qualcomm, Coca-Cola, DuPont, IBM, Microsoft, Sony, MasterCard and Sprint. But \u201cFaces of Change\u201d represents his collaboration with Reaching Out From Within, a volunteer program that sponsors self-help programs for inmates who desire to make changes in their behavior. Vedros visited Kansas penitentiaries with the organization, shooting images of the facilities and the people who live there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was enlightened,\u201d Vedros told KC Studio about first visiting the Lansing Correctional Facility. \u201cThe inmates in the medium and maximum security groups were intelligent, articulate, quick-witted, welcoming, sincere, and affectionate \u2013 all the characteristics I cherish in my circle of friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/10\/PrisonWall.jpg\"><\/a> Lansing Correctional Facility, copyright Nick Vedros 2015\n<p>Reaching Out From Within founder SuEllen Fried will also attend \u201cFaces of Change\u201d to discuss the program which focuses on non-violence and personal growth for those incarcerated in Kansas prisons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFaces of Change\u201d is also the name of an exhibit of Vedros\u2019 work with Reaching Out From Within that will open Nov. 20 at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>The Nov. 3 event is sponsored by Missouri Western\u2019s Peace and Conflict Studies program, the Department of Art and the Missouri Western State University Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><em>Missouri Western State University is a comprehensive regional university providing a blend of traditional liberal arts and professional degree programs.
