Missouri Western State University will celebrate Constitution Day with a discussion titled \u201cEqual Protection of the Law\u201d at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 in the Kemper Recital Hall inside Spratt Hall at Missouri Western State University. The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
Dr. Melinda Kovacs and Dr. Edwin Taylor, both assistant professors of political science, will discuss and answer questions about the contemporary meaning of the critical 14th Amendment, which guarantees equal protection of the law, particularly as it applies to voter ID laws and same-sex marriages.<\/p>\n
Constitution Day is a federal holiday commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Missouri Western\u2019s annual observation is sponsored by the Department of Economics, Political Science and Sociology.<\/p>\n
