\u201cFor years, students, alumni and community members have affectionately referred to us as MoWest,\u201d said Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, president. \u201cIt\u2019s familiar, approachable and reflects an authentic, personal connection. MoWest is a name that feels modern, memorable and distinctly ours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The university\u2019s official name remains Missouri Western State University, and that\u2019s how it will appear on diplomas, transcripts, legal documents and other situations requiring higher levels of formality. But in everyday conversation, marketing and outreach, the name used will be MoWest: with a capital M, a capital W, and no space or punctuation between Mo and West.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the newly embraced name comes a new look for the university\u2019s logos and marks. The iconic Griffon in the shape of the state of Missouri has been modified slightly to provide cleaner lines and sharper edges. Three new primary marks incorporate the new Griffon and the MoWest name. Two formal marks reflect the university\u2019s full name with the new Griffon, and two limited-use marks remain unchanged: the illustrated version of Max the Griffon and the University Seal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Implementing the new look will not be immediate. The new name and marks will appear more quickly on the university\u2019s website and other digital assets. Updating physical assets, including campus signage, will take place more gradually.<\/span><\/p>\n

MoWest is also launching a new campaign aimed at prospective students: More at MoWest, highlighting how MoWest empowers every student to achieve more. It speaks to the breadth of academic programs, the energy of campus life, and the hands-on, career-focused experiences that help students turn passion into purpose.
