Missouri Western State University awarded scholarships to seven local high school students at the annual Foreign Language Day, April 9.<\/p>\n
Every year the foreign language department invites high school students who are studying Chinese, French or Spanish to compete in a variety of language-related activities. This year, 215 high school students attended the competition which consisted of a poetry recitation, a quiz bowl, impromptu skits and video commercials. The following students were awarded scholarships:<\/p>\n
St. Joseph Central High School: Tabitha Tolen, Webster Dyer and Marco Machado<\/p>\n
Liberty (Mo.) North High School: Bettina Jin<\/p>\n
Smithville (Mo.) High School: Ben Hartman and Taylor Tipin<\/p>\n
Maur Hill Mount Academy, Atchison, Kan.: Austen Geenes<\/p>\n
