The concert will feature performances by the Lab Band, Vocal Jazz and Jazz Ensemble. Special guest Dave Scott will perform with the Lab Band and Jazz Ensemble.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Scott, an award-winning trumpet player with a wide range of professional experience, will be an artist-in-residence at Missouri Western for one day. During that day he will give master classes on jazz improvisation, jazz trumpet playing, and will give some private jazz lessons to those that sign up. \u00a0He will also rehearse with the two jazz groups in preparation for the concert.<\/p>\n<p>Currently residing in New York, Scott has been composing for and performing with his own jazz quintet. The quintet released \u201cSong For Amy\u201d on the SteepleChase label in 2004.\u00a0The recording received critical acclaim in JazzTimes in March of 2005.\u00a0Scott also co-leads a quartet with tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby.\u00a0The group has a CD released on the Nine Winds label.\u00a0Many of Scott\u2019s original works are featured on the release.\u00a0He has also toured and recorded as a featured soloist with the Jim Widner Big Band.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s ability to perform on both trumpet and piano gives him a unique perspective as a clinician.\u00a0Currently on the jazz faculty at Western Connecticut State University and formerly at the University of Southern California, Scott coaches combos and teaches improvisation to jazz majors.\u00a0His professional activities include performances and tours with such jazz notables as the Clark Terry Big Band, Bobby Shew, Bob Sheppard, Vinny Golia, Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder and Joe LaBarbera.\u00a0 In 1984 he was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in jazz performance.<\/p>\n<p>This event is open to the public. General admission is $5 and Western students with their I.D. card is $3.
