Garrett Jackson takes the oath of office from Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg ’82.<\/p><\/div>\n

June 23, 2023–Senior Garrett Jackson was sworn in as student governor on the Missouri Western State University Board of Governors at the regular board meeting June 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jackson, from St. Joseph, was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson and confirmed by the Missouri Senate in April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI plan on working diligently with SGA, the Student Government Association, so that we can cooperate together and be the best voice of students that we can be,\u201d Jackson said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The student governor is a non-voting member of the Board of Governors. Jackson will attend meetings and represent students in discussions by the Board.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jackson will graduate next May with a bachelor\u2019s degree in construction engineering technology and a minor in business. He plans to remain at Missouri Western to pursue an MBA. He has interned at Midland Steel Company in Wathena, and has held jobs at Jackson Construction, Camp Geiger, Menards and Chick-fil-A, all in St. Joseph.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jackson graduated from St. Joseph Christian School, and was Loess Hills District Eagle Scout of the Year in 2018. He took the oath of office from Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg, a 1982 alumnus of Missouri Western.<\/span><\/p>\n

Election of Officers<\/b><\/p>\n

Also on June 22, the Board of Governors elected officers for 2023-2024. Rick Ebersold will serve another term as chair and Lisa Norton was elected vice chair. Ron Olinger, interim vice president for finance and administration, will continue to serve as the Board\u2019s treasurer, and Betsy Wright, executive associate to the president, will remain as secretary.<\/span><\/p>\n
