{"id":5199,"date":"2021-02-10T12:05:10","date_gmt":"2021-02-10T18:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/?p=5199"},"modified":"2021-08-18T11:41:01","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T16:41:01","slug":"missouri-western-expands-a-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/2021\/02\/10\/missouri-western-expands-a-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri Western expands A+ Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Missouri Western will expand its scholarship for A+ certified high school graduates from Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA+ students are committed to their education and good citizens of their community, and they have a lot to contribute to the vitality\u00a0of our campus,\u201d said Dr. Melissa Mace, vice president for enrollment management.<\/p>\n<p>Missouri students who are A+ certified have attended a designated high school with a minimum grade point average of 2.5, an attendance record of at\u00a0least 95 percent, performed at least 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring, maintained a record of good citizenship by avoiding illegal drug and alcohol use, and achieved a score of proficient or advanced on an end-of-course exam in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Those students will receive an A+\u00a0 scholarship of at least\u00a0$500 per year, with additional scholarship amounts earned based on performance on the ACT\/SAT (up to $850 A+ scholarship dollars per academic year). Students\u00a0who earn the A+ certified stamp on their transcript are also eligible for Missouri Western\u2019s Griffon Guarantee Scholarship, so their\u00a0scholarship will grow as long as they remain enrolled full time with a minimum GPA of 2.0.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion of Missouri Western\u2019s A+ Scholarship was in response to conversations that Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, interim president, had with guidance\u00a0counselors from area high schools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Missouri Western will expand its scholarship for A+ certified high school graduates from Missouri. \u201cA+ students are committed to their education and good citizens of their community, and they have a lot to contribute to the vitality\u00a0of our campus,\u201d said Dr. Melissa Mace, vice president for enrollment management.
