Since the center opened last fall, Weeks has assisted 90 entrepreneurs working to start a business and 58 existing businesses in the area, and adds about 10 new clients every month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a strong need in the area,\u201d Weeks said. \u201cBusiness owners feel isolated and are seeking support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weeks works with both new and existing owners one on one, and there is no charge for the service.<br \/>\nWith startups, the center will help with a business plan and help them avoid common mistakes, and help them figure their projected income to cover expenses. \u201cIt\u2019s a fine balance between being practical but keeping the enthusiasm,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Many existing business owners do not have business training, so she often helps that group with marketing strategies and financials. Often a Missouri Western class will assist a business with a marketing plan, for example, or a faculty member will offer their expertise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s tremendous for the students; they are helping a real business with a real problem,\u201d she said. \u201cI love that we are able to connect the community with the students and the campus.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cWe get to make a difference in the community, in families and in people\u2019s lives.\u201d That, Annette Weeks says, is why she enjoys her position as director of the Craig School of Business\u2019s Center for Entrepreneurship at Missouri Western.
