{"id":2119,"date":"2018-09-12T13:50:45","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T13:50:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/?p=2119"},"modified":"2019-06-12T10:24:54","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T15:24:54","slug":"tina-brinton-7689-healthcare-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/2018\/09\/12\/tina-brinton-7689-healthcare-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Tina Brinton &#8217;76\/&#8217;89: Healthcare leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day Tina Brinton \u201976\/\u201989 passed her nursing boards with her associate degree, her colleague in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph\u2019s Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri told her she was taking a two-week vacation, starting the next day, so she wouldn\u2019t be there to help Brinton learn the ropes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2120\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/133\/2018\/09\/Brinton.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2120\" src=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/133\/2018\/09\/Brinton.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"254\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2120\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tina Brinton &#8217;76\/&#8217;89<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt was baptism by fire, but I loved every minute of it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since then, Brinton never stopped stepping up into increasing responsibilities and moving forward. Today, she is a founding partner and chief operating officer of Dynafios, a company headquartered in the state of Washington that provides advanced analytics and consulting to healthcare systems across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Brinton continued to work at St. Joseph\u2019s for several years, and in the fall of 1986, Missouri Western began offering a bachelor\u2019s degree. By then, she was in a management position at the hospital and wanted to earn the higher degree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had the best experience at Missouri Western. It wasn\u2019t just about memorization; they really wanted you to learn,\u201d she said. \u201cI asked a lot of questions, and no was ever annoyed with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brinton said she still remembers how the football players (were) volunteered to be the nursing students\u2019 test subjects for inserting IVs and injections. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget trying to put an IV in a huge linebacker,\u201d she said with a laugh. \u201cBut they were so kind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She noted that in both the associate and bachelor\u2019s programs the faculty members made her appreciate the opportunity and the obligation of nursing. \u201cI owe the success that I\u2019ve had to Missouri Western,\u201d she says. \u201cIt really prepared me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several years into her nursing career, she became a senior consultant and partner in two consulting firms before co-founding Dynafios with Steve Elliott in 2004. The name was derived from <em>dyna<\/em>, meaning power, and <em>fios, <\/em>meaning knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that the company works with hospitals and healthcare organizations, arming them with data so they can reduce costs and increase quality. The company has created two software products to that end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still a nurse, but this allows me to do nursing on a much larger scale. I\u2019m affecting thousands and thousands today.
