{"id":1979,"date":"2018-01-05T17:23:20","date_gmt":"2018-01-05T17:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/?p=1979"},"modified":"2019-06-12T10:24:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T15:24:56","slug":"missouri-western-state-university-decade-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/2018\/01\/05\/missouri-western-state-university-decade-in-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri Western State University decade in review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A look back at the past 10 years reveals a lot to be proud of at Missouri Western, and we wanted to share that with our readers. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>New construction and renovations since Dr. Vartabedian has been president include a new math and sciences building, a new residence hall, a completely renovated stadium with one of the largest video scoreboards in NCAA Division II and a new spring sports complex that brought the baseball team\u2019s home field on to campus for the first time in history.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, with the indoor pool facing major repairs, there was a lot of talk of closing it and filling it in. But thanks to partnerships with the City of St. Joseph, Buchanan County and the St. Joseph School District, the pool was renovated and named for the late Sen. Thomas Eagleton.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the Centennial Capital Campaign\u2019s facilities goal is focusing on raising funds for\u00a0 Potter Hall additions and renovations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MWSU Accomplishments 2008-2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2008 \u2013 Dr. Robert Vartabedian becomes president<\/li>\n<li>2008 \u2013 Campus beautification is launched, including new signage, pond fountains, trees and outdoor sculptures<\/li>\n<li>2009 \u2013 A unique program begins that gives students the opportunity to earn a franchise business<\/li>\n<li>2010 \u2013 Campus becomes the summer home of the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp<\/li>\n<li>2010 \u2013 Named All-Steinway School<\/li>\n<li>2011 \u2013 Missouri Western Arts Society founded<\/li>\n<li>2011 \u2013 Craig School of Business receives AACSB prestigious accreditation<\/li>\n<li>2011 \u2013 The musical, \u201cPhantom,\u201d sells out all four performances. The team sets new program records and finishes 27-4<\/li>\n<li>2016 \u2013 Women\u2019s golf qualifies for the Division II National Championships<\/li>\n<li>2016 \u2013 Softball earns both the MIAA regular season and tournament championships, finishing the season 45-13<\/li>\n<li>2017 \u2013 Six new sports are added: men\u2019s and women\u2019s cross country, men\u2019s and women\u2019s indoor and outdoor track.<\/li>\n<li>2017 \u2013 Women\u2019s soccer (17-5) and volleyball (25-11) teams both advance to postseason.
