{"id":1749,"date":"2017-05-12T19:00:53","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T19:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/?p=1749"},"modified":"2019-06-12T10:23:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T15:23:56","slug":"drum-major-for-justice-award-recipients-named","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/magazine\/2017\/05\/12\/drum-major-for-justice-award-recipients-named\/","title":{"rendered":"Drum Major for Justice Award Recipients Named"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Missouri Western employee, a Missouri Western student and a community member were honored with Drum Major for Justice Awards at the 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet in January: Joanne Katz, Alexis Williams and Jeremy Eaton.<\/p>\n<p>Katz, professor of legal studies, has dedicated her professional and personal life to building bridges and being an advocate for peace, especially through her work with restorative justice. Katz also helped develop a minor in peace and conflict studies at Missouri Western.<\/p>\n<p>Williams, a student, works in the Center for Multicultural Education on campus. She is very active in making a positive difference in the lives of students of color, her nomination read. \u00a0Williams is a leader in the campus NAACP student group and serves on the University\u2019s Diversity &amp; Inclusion Task Force.<\/p>\n<p>Community member Jeremy Eaton has volunteered for several community organizations and works with disadvantaged children in Mumbai, India.
