The Esson Scholarship, established by Douglas and Susan Esson, is a scholarship for students in departments of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and in the Department of Nursing.
This scholarship was started in the 1994-95 academic year. Awards will be given so that there are an equal number of junior and senior, male and female students. This scholarship requires that students have a:
- minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2,
- have declared a major in a department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or in the Department of Nursing, and
- must be a full-time student during the fall and spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic year.
The departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Nursing, may nominate a maximum of two students each. Academic departments are responsible for soliciting scholarship applications.
Students wishing to apply for these scholarships should write a letter of application to the department of their major (there is no formal application form). This letter should describe:
- professional aspirations
- extracurricular activities
- any special financial considerations.
A copy of the student’s transcript and a “Student Aid Report” (obtained with the assistance of the Missouri Western Financial Aid Office) must be submitted with the letter of application. Applications without transcripts and Student Aid Report attached will not be considered.
Applications are to be turned in to the Chairperson of the department of your declared major. Applications must be forwarded from the department Chairperson to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences no later than March 30, 2014 for full consideration.
