ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY TECHNOLOGY/CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER- Missouri Western State University seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative professional with a successful track record to serve as the Assistant Vice President for University Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO). Missouri Western is a comprehensive, state-supported institution serving more than 5,000 students on a beautiful 723-acre campus about 35 minutes north of Kansas City International Airport. The ideal candidate will be an experienced IT leader with strong strategic and leadership abilities. Ideally, s/he can anticipate the emergence of new technologies that will benefit a comprehensive regional university. The new CIO will be grounded in fundamental principles, but will also be capable of recognizing and embracing change. Ideally, the CIO will exude creativity and explore dynamic and diverse technologies to meet the needs of students, staff, faculty, and the University. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the CIO will prioritize technology initiatives, identify risks, evaluate trends, and make IT recommendations.

The new CIO will also have the opportunity to:

  • Develop a strategic IT direction and plan consistent with Missouri Western’s strategic plan and capital plan in collaboration with the senior leadership team and key stakeholders;
  • Provide strong leadership and work together with the IT team;
  • Partner with departments to streamline processes and find technology solutions;
  • Appropriately support administrative, academic, and research functions through network administration, security, and related areas;
  • Maintain systems that secure data records associated with student and personnel records, financial records, and research data;
  • Create effective quality assurance processes, testing strategies, departmental metrics, and disaster preparedness plans.
  • Identify the appropriate balance of campus-based resources and services versus brokered resources and services delivered by vendor and cloud-based providers;
  • Develop and manage the IT budget;
  • Build strong working relationships among IT and faculty, staff, management, vendors and other organizations by facilitating communication and resolving conflicts; and
  • Use IT to improve student recruitment and retention.

The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering, or other related discipline with significant experience is required; master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Successful record of visionary leadership, innovation, and excellence in IT in a complex environment;
  • Broad understanding of and/or experience with IT within a university system;
  • Understanding of and experience maintaining an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP), such as Ellucian Banner;
  • Senior IT leadership experience at an institution of higher education, preferably as a CIO;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, well-organized, solution-oriented, and self-directed;
  • Ability to adjust to, learn, and implement new hardware/software technologies;
  • Experience supervising staff and ability to build a team, manage, and mentor staff while working effectively with the president, provost, vice presidents, deans, faculty, university staff, and students;
  • Unwavering commitment to excellent customer service and expeditiously assisting students, faculty, and staff in a friendly manner;
  • Ability to effectively manage finances and other resources;
  • In-depth knowledge of current and emerging information technologies, hardware, software, data security issues, and use of social media;
  • Desire to facilitate collaboration and partnerships across the University and with external constituencies; and

INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH ANALYST: Missouri Western State University seeks applications for the position of Institutional Research Analyst. The IR analyst will extract, manage, analyze, and write reports (with visuals/graphic displays) to succinctly translate data for constituents both within and outside the University, for purposes of compliance with mandated reporting and for decision-making, planning, assessment, and accreditation with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Internal/External Reporting: coordinates the institutional research function with various internal external constituents, including state and federal regulatory agencies. Ensures the integrity and validity of institutional data to support policy and decision-making for the University and prepares state and federal reports and surveys (e.g., IPEDS).
  • Reporting Compliance: follows professional ethical standards and understands the possible financial, accreditation and legal consequences to the University as part of this position.
  • Data Support: provides statistical support including data collection, development/programming of reports and systems to manage institutional and assessment data. Has a strong customer service orientation, provides quality training and participates in professional development to acquire new skills/competencies.
  • Data Analysis: uses advanced research and statistical methods to conduct comprehensive data analyses, develops institutional studies and provides data interpretations to assist in decision-making processes and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of study emphasizing statistical research, analysis, interpretation, and reporting with five years of experience in state or federal reporting, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Proficient in the use of statistical software for data extraction, verification, and analysis.
  • Work independently, collaboratively, and possess effective organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience with enterprise management systems, e.g. Banner.
  • Knowledge of research methods (e.g., quasi-experimental methodology, survey data) involving inferential statistics and analytics.
  • Experience working with large complex databases to statistically test and evaluate data.

CONTROLLER- Missouri Western State University seeks applications for the position of Controller. The Controller will handle high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee the financial activities of the university. Overseeing the accounting department and business office, the controller will manage and supervise all aspects of work and personnel, and will assist with the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses.
  • Maintain documented system of accounting policies and operations; update as necessary.
  • Oversee payments of all accounts, ensuring all accounts are paid on time; process accounts and collecting payments; oversee all payments made for debts, bank loans, and other large quantities of money.
  • Monitor cash and funding balances; prepare and organize financial statements; prepare quarterly and annual financial reports; manage the quarterly and annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investment, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management and VP of Finance.
  • Organize information and statement for audits; complying with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting. Ensuring the university complies with all additional legal and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or related field; previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager; five to ten years’ experience in field preferred.
  • Work independently, collaboratively, and ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, accounting and cost control principles, accounting standards pronouncements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

HEAD WOMEN’S LACROSSE COACH- Missouri Western State University invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. Missouri Western is a successful member of NCAA Division II and recently announced the addition of women’s lacrosse as the University’s 17th intercollegiate sport. The women’s lacrosse program will begin competition in spring 2021. The successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of building the new women’s lacrosse program, including a high emphasis on the recruitment of quality student-athletes for the 2020-21 academic year, the academic success of women’s lacrosse student-athletes, game preparation and strategy, supervision of an assistant coach and graduate assistant, scheduling the inaugural season of competition, enhancing public relations, organizing camps and clinics, fund-raising, budget, adherence to NCAA rules and regulations, and other general administrative duties. In addition, the Head Coach will be responsible for supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of both the University and its Intercollegiate Athletics program. DIRECTOR OF MILITARY AND VETERAN SERVICES- Missouri Western State University seeks applications for the position of Director of Military and Veteran Services. The Director of Military and Veteran Services provides leadership and direction in development and coordination of a comprehensive program of outreach, support and services for students with a military-connected status, or eligible to receive benefits from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The Director serves as the University’s primary representative in all matters related to service members, veterans and their families and provides input on strategic direction for institutional policy development.  The Director works within the University’s Center for Service and reports directly to its Executive Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Effectively manage the development and implementation of a vision, mission, and strategic plan in accordance with national best practices to further the support of veteran and military-connected students at MWSU.
  • In collaboration with Admissions and academic departments across the institution, cultivate efforts to expand military and veteran enrollments, both on campus and online.
  • In collaboration with other units across campus, responsible for development, implementation, and enhancement of services for veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors.
  • Help military-connected and veteran students navigate university and community resources for curricular and co-curricular success.
  • Serve as primary point person in facilitating University support for military-connected students as they progress toward graduation, and serves as primary contact between University and federal and state agencies involved with veterans and service members.
  • Pursue grants and other external funding opportunities to enhance student services for military and veteran population.
  • Maintain data and prepare reports on military-connected student enrollment, retention, persistence, and degree-completion.
  • Engage in community and civic outreach programs and external agency engagement efforts in support of the University’s vision for military connected students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred); two years of experience working with military and/or veteran populations or a similar non-traditional student population; two years of experience advising students, veterans, or service members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to facilitate, mediate, advise, advocate, and mentor.
  • Two years demonstrated supervisory and management skills.
  • Experience using personal computers and proficiency with common computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet software, e-mail, and web-based research, ability to work well in a diverse environment, and valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active military service, National Guard or Reserve service, with experience in post-9/11 conflicts and knowledge of issues affecting post-9/11 veterans and their families.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably in higher education, with an understanding of enrollment services, advising, and financial aid issues.
  • Experience in program planning and implementation, as well as conducting and presenting independent research.
  • Knowledge of programs administered by the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA), including GI Bill benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation and Dependents Educational Assistance, as well as tuition assistance programs for active military and National Guard/Reserve.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY- ADJUNCT PROFESSOR- The Department of Engineering Technology at Missouri Western is seeking multiple applications for adjunct faculty positions for Spring 2020. The faculty will teach undergraduate courses in Construction Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, which include electrical circuits, microcomputers, communication systems, mechanical systems, computer-aided drafting, construction management, estimating, materials, statics, manufacturing methods, etc. These are part-time, non-tenure track positions with a high possibility of reappointment. ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR- MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS – The Craig School of Business at Missouri Western State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in our AACSB Accredited business program beginning or August 2020. This position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to the field of Management Information Systems such as Introduction to MIS, Business Intelligence & Analytics. REQUIRED: Doctorate in Management Information Systems, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field (ABD will be considered). Applicants must have some college/university-level teaching experience. Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate the capacity to produce and publish scholarship in refereed journals to enable classification as “Scholarly Academic” under the guidelines of AACSB International. PREFERRED: Candidates with experience in applied learning, a willingness to work with first-generation college students, or online teaching experience. The selected candidate may be required to teach using alternative delivery methods.
