Vice President for Financial Planning & Administration-Missouri Western State University (MWSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Financial Planning & Administration. A direct report to the University President, the Vice President for Financial Planning & Administration provides leadership, organization and coordination for the financial affairs of the university; oversees the administrative services for faculty, staff and students, including finance, physical plant/facilities, information technology, human resources, university police, risk management, and contracted bookstore and food services; serves on the President’s Cabinet; and assists in the development/review of university policies.

 MWSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is an AQIP participant. MWSU has a growing, vibrant, and diverse student body of approximately 5,700. The university is located on 723 beautiful acres in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 35 minutes north of Kansas City International Airport. Missouri Western is the home of the Kansas City Chiefs football summer training camp.

 Specific Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, business administration, or higher education administration along with supervisory and budgetary experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor preferred.
  • Substantial successful experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and administrative oversight.
  • Broad technological, human resources, and financial knowledge.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in database management, report preparation and public presentation.
  • Successful and sustained record of effective leadership, supervisory, management and organizational skills.
  • Clear understanding of state and federal government, as well as appropriation structure and processes.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.

UNIVERSITY POLICE OFFICER – University Police Department, shift work; performs various law enforcement functions as well as safety and security work for the campus, enforcing federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and ordinances as well as campus rules, regulations, and policies. ACADEMIC COMPUTING COORDINATOR- manages Academic Computing staff to maintain campus computer labs; evaluates lab usage and effectiveness of hardware and software in meeting instructional objectives; makes recommendations regarding hardware and software upgrades and lab configurations; plans and coordinates implementation of computer lab hardware and software upgrades; collaborates with administration and faculty to resolve computer lab issues; and oversees/provides training and consulting for academic computer labs. Faculty Opportunities

EXERCISE SCIENCE/PHYSICAL EDUCATION- ASSISTANT PROFESSOR- (full-time, tenure track) position to begin August 2019. The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Missouri Western State University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor to teach classroom and online undergraduate courses in Exercise Science. Course may include sport and fitness nutrition, principles of aerobic training, exercise for special populations, advanced cardiovascular physiology, and applied techniques in personal training. The successful candidate will teach and develop coursework in Exercise Science in response to departmental needs and his/her area(s) of expertise, advise undergraduate health, physical education, and recreation majors, supervise field-based clinical and internship experiences, serve on committees within the department and college, engage in professional service and scholarly activities. The department features a recently updated Health/Exercise Science Lab as well as a newly renovated Personal & Commercial Fitness lab. REQUIRED: Earned doctorate degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or closely related field. ABD with all degree requirements including dissertation defense by the date of appointment will be considered. INSTRUCTOR – POLITICAL SCIENCE & GEOGRAPHY – (non-tenure track, one-year renewable) – The Department of Economics, Political Science, and Sociology is seeking applications from well-qualified candidates to teach 12 credit hours per semester beginning August 2019. This is a blended position with instructional responsibilities in both the disciplines of Political Science and Geography. We are seeking broadly trained applicants with areas of expertise that include some combination of American Politics, American or International Public Policy, International Relations; and Geographic/Spatial Relations. The ideal candidate would support general education courses in American Government and Cultural World Geography while contributing to upper division course work in Political Science and Geography as dictated by program needs. An ability to teach research methods/design to undergraduates and an interest in supporting internships across disciplines is highly desirable. REQUIRED: MA/MS in Political Science and graduate level coursework related to cultural geography. LEGAL STUDIES & SOCIAL WORK INSTRUCTOR – (position begins August 2019) – to teach undergraduate courses, advise students, and participate in department/college activities in an ABA approved Paralegal (Legal Studies) Program and a Social Work Program accredited by the Council for Social Work Education. The Criminal Justice, Legal Studies & Social Work Department offers four Legal Studies degrees: a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a legal studies concentration, Associate of Science degree in Legal Assistant degree, a Legal Assistant Certificate, a Minor in Legal Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, a combination of the following courses: Conflict Management, Selected Topics in Peace & Conflict Resolution, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Restorative Justice and teaching courses in Legal Studies and Social Work if qualified to teach Social Work courses. Additional responsibilities may include maintaining compliance with ABA guidelines, scholarship, and professional development related to the teaching of and practice of legal studies; advising students; providing departmental/university/community service. REQUIRED: A J.D. is required for this position. PREFERRED: A J.D. and a LCSW is preferred for this position. A post-graduate degree in Social Work with two years relevant experience in practicing law and/or in conflict management. On-line and traditional teaching experience is highly recommended.
