Calling ALL Competitors
Are you a competitor, and want to make a difference in the lives of local elementary students? We are looking for Missouri Western student, faculty and staff’s assistance in raising funds for Second Harvest’s elementary school program Backpack Buddies.
Backpack Buddies is a weekend supplemental feeding program. Over 3,200 children in 18 counties in over 50 schools are signed up for the program for the 2013-14 school year in the St. Joseph area and surrounding counties.
There will be a culminating Walk-a-Thon Saturday April 5 in the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex to collect funds and celebrate together! The winning teams will be announced and prizes awarded!

SHO Us Your Smarts! Trivia Night
Think you and your friends have what it takes to be trivia champions? Come join Student Honors Organization fundraising trivia night in Spratt Hall room 214 and 216. SHO Us Your Smarts Trivia Night will be held April 4. There will be fun, snacks and PRIZES! To RSVP for SHO Us Your Smarts please have one team member complete an entry form by Wednesday, March 26. Literacy Luncheon with Sen. Roy Blunt
Area literacy volunteers will be honored at the 2014 Literacy Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20 in the Hoff Conference Rooms, Blum Student Union rooms 218-219 at Missouri Western State University. Reservations are due by 4 p.m. Monday, March 17, by calling 816-271-4100. Donations are welcome to help with the cost of the meal.
Student Commencement Speaker Nominations
Missouri Western State University has a tradition of alternating Commencement Ceremony speakers, with a faculty member speaking each fall, and a graduating senior each spring. Student Affairs is requesting email nominations of seniors who should be considered as a class representative to speak at Commencement ceremonies. Students MAY self-nominate. The selected student speaker will speak to the graduating class during the inaugural outdoor commencement on Saturday, May 10. Please email with requests or any questions at by Friday, March 28.The email should contain the following:

Couch Potato to 5k Program
Heartland Health and Mosaic Life Care is back for another year of our Couch Potato to 5k program. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned runner looking to push yourself even further, this FREE, 16-week program is designed to help you take small steps to walk or run to better health. This year’s program has been revamped to meet the needs of participants and to accommodate different training styles.
• Two training sessions to choose from at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to accommodate your schedule and training preference
• Program extended to 16 weeks to help you prepare at a better pace and for potentially longer distances (if you want to, of course)
• Each participant receives a booklet with 5k and 10k training plans and to track your progress (longer distance training plans will be provided upon request)
• Weekly emails including tips, training reminders, encouragement and ongoing updates
• Attend at least 12 out of 16 weekly training sessions and turn in your bib number from an official run/walk to be entered to win a Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card. Prizes will be awarded for the 5k and 10k categories.

Ducks Unlimited Annual Membership Banquet
On Saturday April 5 at Moila Country Club is the 2014 Annual Ducks Unlimited Membership Banquet. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. The ticket prices are as follows $15 Youth, $35 Single, $50 Couple, $200 Legacy Greenwing and $250 Sponsorship.

Come prove yourself this year at Alpha Gamma Delta’s Mr. MWSU!
It will be held March 26 at 7 p.m. in Kemper Arena inside Spratt Hall. There will be an opening dance, a swimwear, an outfit of choice, talent and a formal question competitions.
Applicants must be nominated by a student organization and provide a $50 entrance fee with the application.
Application and fee are due by March 3 to any member of Alpha Gamma Delta, or placed in our mailbox in the Center for Student Engagement.
Tickets will be for sale for $3 per ticket before the show and $5 at the door.
All proceeds go to the awareness and education of diabetes.
One World Soccer Tournament
We welcome students, faculty and staff to participate in the exciting One World Soccer Tournament this year! This event is sponsored by International Student Services, International Student Club and Recreation Services. This year’s registration deadline will be March 24, and the registration fee for each person is $5.00, with a maximum of 11 people per team. The tournament dates are March 31st, April 7th, 9th and 16th at 8 p.m. in the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex. You may sign up as a team of up to 11 people, or you may sign up individually and we can place you on a team. Hope to see you on the soccer field!

Hygiene Product Drive
The Nursing Honor Society, Omicron Nu, a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International will be sponsoring a drive to collect hygiene products. Hygiene products such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, deodorant etc., will be delivered to the Social Welfare Board. Even travel sized hygiene products can be useful. The organization is located in St. Joseph. It provides a variety of services to vulnerable populations in our region.
There is a box on the 3rd floor of Murphy in the Department of Nursing. We would appreciate your support in this cause. We will be collecting these items until March 21.

During the week of March 17-21, the Center for Student Engagement is holding a leadership event called the “Titleless Leadership Week.” There are events planned for every day of the week and each day will have a different theme. Points will be accumulated from each event, and the team of 3 with the most points at the end of the week will each win a Kindle HDX. The deadline to sign up is March 7.
Education Career Fair (Education Expo)
A MWSU Career Development Center Event in partnership with the Department of Education Education Career Fair (Education Expo)
Date: Monday, March 17
Location: Fulkerson Center
Time: 1- 4 p.m.
Featuring: Education recruiters from school districts in the local area and surrounding states (approx. 40 different school districts.) The event is the Monday after Spring Break. Participants, bring your resumes, dress professionally and be prepared to network and mingle in a career fair setting with prospective employers. This event is open to currently enrolled students and Fall, 2013 graduates - especially Education majors. Education majors currently student teaching are required to attend. Contact the MWSU Department of Education if you have questions. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled and NOT rescheduled. Sponsored by the Career Development Center, the Office of Student Employment and the Department of Education.

Student Volleyball Association
Like playing volleyball? Then you'll like the Student Volleyball Association! We play volleyball every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Looney and we also have informational meetings every Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Blum Lobby. We host tournaments and fundraisers every month. Get your ticket to the Spring Concert
Spring Concert the tickets are only $5. You can buy your ticket in the Center for Student Engagement (Blum 207) from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You must have your student ID to pick up your ticket and to attend the concert. The April 25 concert will feature B.O.B. and SOMO. Don't miss out on these nationally-known acts.
Golden Griffon Color Guard Tryouts
The Golden Griffon Color Guard is excited to kick off the 2014 season and is seeking new members with a little experience and a lot of enthusiasm! Tryouts will be held on the following Saturdays;
