Spring 2014 Career Fair
The Missouri Western Career Development Center is pleased to announce the Spring 2014 University Career Fair and Criminal Justice Day on February 27, 2014 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. in the Fulkerson Center. The event promises to provide an opportunity for students to meet employers recruiting for full-time and part-time positions, as well as applied learning opportunities such as internships and co-ops.
Students are encouraged to dress for success, bring resumes, and be prepared to network with employers. You may visit Career Development staff at the Career Nest each Wednesday in the Blum union, 10:00am- 2:00pm, or contact the Career Development Center, Eder 202 for more information regarding this event.
Black History Month Events
February is Black History Month, and there are many events planned to mark the occasion. On Thursday, Feb. 6, the Black Student Union and the Student Government Association will show "The Help" in The Commons beginning at 6 p.m.
Spanish Cultural Event on Campus
Join us to practice speaking Spanish and expand your vocabulary while playing fun board games!

First Thursday's Open Mic Event
Bring your creative work to read for an audience in our monthly open mic- poetry, prose, spoken word, and anything else is welcome. The event is Feb. 6th at 7 p.m., at Norty's Bar and Grill. Plan for about 5 to 8 minutes of reading (about 3 or 4 poems or 4 pages of prose double spaced). We meet every First Thursday of the month.

Also, don't forget the Writers Circle meets every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Eder 211. Writer's Circle is open to all students, faculty, or employees who wish to join a small community of creative writers. We read and comment on group members' works in a critical, yet positive, workshop setting. For more information please email
Looney Pool Closed
After parts are received and installed, we anticipate the swimming pool in Looney Complex should be reopened on Tuesday, Feb. 18
On-Campus Employment
Phonathon callers needed.
Two-week time commitment. The Phonathon runs daily starting with training on Saturday, February 22 through Wednesday, March 5. Students may be able to work a maximum of 20 hours a week. It is primarily evening hours, but callers do not have to work every evening. There are daytime shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Callers will be paid Student Worker wages. Lecture Series: The Peace and Conflict Studies
Guest speaker from India, Dr. K.C. Sunny, professor and chair, department of law, University of Kerala, Kerala, India. Cheerleading tryouts

Pizza and Politics
The Missouri Western College Republicans and College Democrats will be cosponsoring "Pizza and Politics" Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in Spratt Hall room 205. The event will provide students with the opportunity to express their political views in a welcoming environment, enjoy free pizza, and have fun. All MWSU students are invited.

Each year during the Alumni Awards Banquet at Homecoming, the Alumni Association presents the Distinguished Alumni Award, the GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) Award, the Distinguished Faculty Award and the Herb '35 and Peggy Iffert Award for Outstanding Service to the University. Student Excellence Fund
The Student Excellence Fund is a source of financial assistance provided for Western students through the MWSU Foundation. This fund reimburses students for expenses incurred while presenting papers, participating in conferences, etc. For detailed information and application go to: MWSU Foundation.

President's Leadership Council
Hello student leaders! Welcome to a brand new semester! We are making some changes to President's Leadership Council this semester to make it more beneficial to you and your student organizations.
Our first meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Spratt 205.
The meetings for the rest of the semester will be held on March 5 and April 2, at the same time and same place. Please mark your calendars!
