Don't miss this program about the growing French-speaking population in Saint Joseph. Spanning the globe from Europe to Africa to Haiti, presenters will speak about the use of French in their country and the ties between their country and France. Centennial Video Project
Share Your Stories!

Attention, all employees and retirees: You are invited to join our centennial video project and share stories and memories of your St. Joseph Junior College/Missouri Western experiences. We have reserved two dates so far in the Hearnes Center IMC studio. Please call Diane Holtz at (816) 271-5651 or email to set up your appointment to be interviewed and filmed. The interviews will take approximately 15 minutes.

We may use the footage from the interviews on the web, in videos, or for the archives. We plan to set up one day a month through 2014 for interviews as long as we have people to interview.

The first two dates set are as follows:
Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Walter Cronkite Commercial
The Office of Public Relations and Marketing is shooting a commercial for the Walter Cronkite Memorial at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24. We need 20 people to be in the commercial.
Please spread the word! If you, or any of your student workers, can come to help, please email Mallory Murray, director of public relations and marketing, at and let us know how many to people to expect.
The shoot is scheduled to go until 2:30 but will likely be done by 2 p.m. at the absolute latest.
The commercial will be aired throughout Northwest Missouri, so now is your chance to be regionally famous!
‘Bowl for the Boys’ Tournament
The second annual ‘Bowl for the Boys’ Tournament will be held on Feb. 1 at Olympia Lanes in St. Joseph Missouri. The proceeds from this event go to the Riverbend Treatment Center’s Liaison Committee to assist in meeting the educational, physical and spiritual needs of youth at this facility. Cost for three lines of bowling will be $20 per individual. Individuals and teams will be eligible to win prizes from local businesses as well as gifts made by the boys at Riverbend. The Riverbend Treatment Center Liaison Committee is a not-for-profit organization that works with the Division of Youth Services Riverbend Treatment Center. Eighth Annual MWSU Jazz Festival
Musicians from area middle schools and high schools will have the opportunity to perform for nationally recognized jazz educators at Missouri Western’s eighth annual Jazz Festival on Saturday Feb. 1.
The musicians will perform at 5:45 p.m. in the Fulkerson Center. The program will feature the Missouri Western Jazz Ensemble and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Enjoy a great buffet lunch for only $7.00 and get all the latest information from Griffon coaches & staff on the events that have taken place and what lies ahead. *MAKE PLANS TO ATTEND ZUMBA IN THE ROOMBA THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 25* A winter tradition is set for this Saturday, January 25 as the annual Zumba in Roomba will take place in the Griffon Indoor Sports Complex at 10 AM. This year in addition to Zumba, we've invited some other friends to help you "Get Up Off You Boomba!" as representatives from B-Fit will be conducting Cross Fit Exercise stations along with personnel from Title Boxing Club doing boxing cardio workouts. Registration will take place on site that morning with cost being a minimum $10 donation with all proceeds going to benefit the YWCA Choices Program and Women's Athletics at MWSU. *GRIFFON MEN'S BASKETBALL HAS A NEAR RECORD DAY FROM THE FREE THROW IN VICTORY OVER SBU* Griffon Men's Basketball went 1-1 in MIAA action last week. On Wednesday, the Griffs concluded a tough three game road trip falling to a good Central Missouri team as Ryan Devers led the way with 16 points. On Saturday, the Griffons returned to the friendly confines of the MWSU Fieldhouse and picked up a much needed 89-84 victory over Southwest Baptist. Five players scored in double figures led by 23 points from Charlie Marquardt and 19 from Devers. The Griffs also had a near record game from the free throw line as they went 38-50. The 50 attempts fell two shy of the school record set in 1992, while the 38 makes were two shy of a record set in 1991.
The Griffs are now 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the MIAA and return to action this Saturday as they travel to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern with tip time set for 3 PM. The Lions enter action 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA. *GRIFFON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP MUCH NEEDED WIN* After traveling through the gauntlet of the upper tier MIAA teams on the road, Griffon Women's Basketball picked up a much needed victory on Saturday as they defeated Southwest Baptist 73-63 in the fieldhouse paced by a 13-0 run to the start game. Three players scored in double figures led by 12 points from Quenisha Lockett, while the sisters Lewis (Sharniece and Jalissa) scored 12 & 11 points respectively. The week began with the Griffons being defeated at #8 Central Missouri as Lockett again the led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

*SMITH TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE MISSOURI SPORTS HALL OF FAME ON SUNDAY* Retired Griffon Men's Basketball Coach Tom Smith will join 14 other legends as part of the 2014 induction class into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this Sunday in Springfield. Enshrinement activities begin with a reception at the Hall of Fame at 11 AM followed by an evening reception, ceremony and banquet beginning at 4 PM at the University Plaza Convention Center. Others begin inducted include former St. Louis Cardinal Willie McGee, former Kansas City Chief Ed Podolak and former Kansas City Royal Mike McFarland.

*JORDAN RECEIVES NFL COMBINE INVITE* For the second consecutive year, MWSU will be represented at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis as tight end Reggie Jordan has been invited. The combine gives elite college seniors a chance to showcase their skills in a variety ways to representatives from all 32 NFL teams and takes place February 19-24 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jordan caught 17 career touchdown passes in a Griffon uniform.

Missouri Western Hosts Candidate Forums Jan. 28 and 30
The Department of Economics, Political Science and Sociology and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Missouri Western State University will host candidate forums for candidates in the St. Joseph city primary elections at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 30 in the Kemper Recital Hall inside Spratt Hall. The forums are free and open to the public. The primary election will be on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
