Personal Impact Survey
Dear Western Employee,
Each year Missouri Western employees make significant and substantial contributions to regional communities. Western employees set the standard for excellence in service and community leadership.
We wish to recognize your personal service and community contributions through the online MWSU Personal Impact Survey. This survey will only take a few minutes to complete and is similar to previous annual Personal Impact Surveys. Therefore, we are asking you to complete it today, if possible, but no later than Friday, February 28, 2014.
The survey is designed to measure the impact of your contributions from July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014. We do realize that this asks that you provide some information before your service may be fully completed. All responses are estimates of time. The data will only be reported as aggregate data; no individual contributions will be reported.
By completing this survey we will be able to document the important and extensive service provided by Western employees.
The survey should be completed by Friday, February 28. Aggregate results will be reported in the Community Impact Report.
Thank you again for supporting this important community service impact reporting need. Your participation is appreciated.

*GRIFFON MEN'S BASKETBALL HAS TWO GAME LEAD WITH TWO TO GO FOR FINAL TOURNAMENT SPOT* Griffon Men's Basketball got back in the win column last Wednesday as they swept the season series from Lincoln defeating the Blue Tigers in Jefferson City 82-65. Three players scored in double figures led by 19 points from Cortrez Colbert. Kalvin Balque posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds while Ryan Devers added 17. Saturday in the fieldhouse, in front of the largest crowd of the season, the Griffs were defeated by Northwest Missouri State as Balque led the way with 19 points.

*GRIFFON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE IN THE FIELDHOUSE* It was a range of emotion last week for Griffon Women's Basketball. Last Wednesday in Jefferson City, the Griffs lost a heartbreaker in the closing seconds to Lincoln 56-55. Tiffanie Abrams led the way with 18 points while Quenisha Lockett posted 14. *GRIFFON BASEBALL OFF TO A 4-0 START IN MIAA PLAY AFTER HOME SWEEP * So far so good for Griffon Baseball as they are once again atop the MIAA league standings after a four game sweep of Northeastern State last weekend at the Spring Sports Complex. On Friday, the Griffs knocked off NSU by scores of 6-4 and 14-6. In the opener, pitcher Tyler Sanders pitched a complete game for the victory while in game two, a 10 run first inning was all the Griffs needed as freshman Tyler Tuepker threw four innings of scoreless relief for his first career victory. In game one on Saturday, local product Will Carter tied the game in the ninth inning with a double and then ended it in the 11th with a walk-off home run in a 6-5 win, while pitching was once again the story in game two as Dylan Roades and Matt Russell combined to give up no earned runs in a 6-2 win in the nightcap. At the plate, Carter along with Trevor LaHonta are hitting over .400 through the first nine games, while center fielder Ryan Degner is hitting .355 with 3 home runs and 13 driven in.
Overall, the Griffs now stand 6-3 and return to action this weekend weather permitting at Northwest Missouri State in a four game series with single games set for Friday & Sunday at 2 & 1 PM respectively with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at 1 PM.
Home action continues March 7-9 as Washburn comes to town for a four game series.
As schedules do tend to change at a moments notice, stay tuned to gogriffons.com for the most accurate updates.

*GRIFFON SOFTBALL * *NOW 10-4 AFTER ST. CLOUD STATE DOME TOURNAMENT* After having to travel through a winter storm on the way to Minnesota, the Griffs registered another positive weekend going 3-1 in the St. Cloud State Dome Tournament. In game one, the Griffs used a three run fifth inning in route to a 3-0 victory over Concordia-St. Paul. Jackie Bishop struck out eight and walked none in the victory with Morgan Rathmann recording a RBI. Saturday the Griffs knocked off Wayne State 2-1 with Shelby Elliott scoring the game deciding run on a wild pitch. Sunday saw the Griffs split a doubleheader being defeated by #8 Augustana in the opener before rebounding in a big way defeating host St. Cloud State 11-0 in the nightcap.
The Griffons are now 10-4 overall and travel to Joplin this weekend for more regional action in the Missouri Southern Crossover Tournament. On Saturday the Griffs take on William Jewell and Illinois-Springfield at 12 & 4 PM respectively. Then on Sunday match-ups are set with Wayne State and Northern State at 9 AM & 1 PM.
The home opener at the Spring Sports Complex is Tuesday, March 11 as the Griffs host Northwest Missouri State at 2 PM.

*GRIFFON TENNIS PLAYS HOME OPENER AGAINST MARYVILLE* The weather finally cooperated for Griffon Tennis as they made their home debut last Friday at Noyes Tennis Courts and were defeated by Maryville. Missouri Western Legacy Directory
You may remember Jerry Pickman and President Vartabedian talking about the Legacy Directory during the Spring General Session last month. The directory will enable former students or other constituents to contribute to projects that are of special interest to someone who made a difference during their time here. We're in the process of building the directory, and need your help. All faculty and staff are welcome to participate, and we especially encourage those who have been at Missouri Western for five years or longer to give participation serious consideration. If you would like to participate, please provide the requested information and take a few moments to answer the following questions:

Experts Wanted
I want to first thank the many of you who have graciously cooperated when I’ve called asking for help in responding to an interview request from a member of the media. Each time one of our faculty or staff members appears in the media, Missouri Western’s reputation in the community as a source of knowledge and expertise is enhanced.
Secondly, I’d like to ask for your help in updating a list of experts this office could put media in touch with for information or interviews. Reporters often have stories that require background information or an expert opinion. Such a list will help us find those people on campus who can give them the information they need, and help Western gain more coverage.
If you’re willing to respond to media requests, please answer the questions below and email them to kheier@missouriwestern.edu. The question asking for your areas of expertise, be as inclusive as possible: you never know what kind of information the media wants.
Thank you again for your help.
