Open Mic Night: Sponsored by Fraternity & Sorority Life (optional event)
Ice Cream & Info: Sponsored by the Office of Admissions (optional event) – 7:00 p.m.; Blum Food Court
Grab some ice cream and info from the Office of Admissions, and then pop into the Open Mic Night being hosted by Fraternity & Sorority Life! Current students will be performing, but you’re welcome to participate if you would like to showcase your talent. You can also just chill and watch performers as you get to know your fellow new students and current students.
Class of 2023 Photo (mandatory event) – 9:00 a.m.; Spratt Stadium
This mandatory event kicks off Griffon Edge! Meet your Griffon Edge Mentor (GEM) and the rest of your Color Team while participating in the Class of 2023 photo at the Spratt Stadium.
Welcome Rally: Partnership with Athletics (mandatory event) – 10:00 a.m.; Looney Arena
As part of your welcome to Griffon Edge, you will be introduced to what it means to have #GriffonPride!
Success Camp (mandatory event) – 2:15 p.m.; Griffon Indoor Sports Complex
You will learn how to find success in your own unique gifts and learn to focus on your personal strengths and what you can bring to a team!
Griff Up Downtown: Partnership with the Craig School of Business & Technology and Downtown St. Joseph (optional event) – 5:30 p.m.; Downtown St. Joseph, Felix Square
Buses will begin leaving the Blum Student Union parking lot at 5:00 p.m. and will run a loop from Missouri Western to Downtown St. Joseph until 8:00 p.m. There will be free food, face painting, a scavenger hunt, live music, and more! Current students, alumni, faculty, and staff have also been invited to this event, so it’s a great chance to hang out with the Griffon Family while getting acclimated to the St. Joseph community. President Wilson and the Mayor of St. Joseph will be welcoming you all at 5:30 p.m. in the square, so you don’t want to be late!
Griffon Buddies: Partnership with the St. Joseph School District (mandatory) – 9:30 a.m.
Students will participate in a community service project at the elementary schools in the St. Joseph School District. We will be connecting with elementary students and becoming their Griffon Buddies while we learn how Griffs Give Back!
Commuter Connections: Partnership with the Nontraditional & Commuter Student Center (optional event) – 5:00 p.m.; Eder Lobby/Eder 200
Meet your fellow commuters, and hear from various resources about what they offer for commuter students! We have a welcome gift for each of you, so don’t miss this event. There will also be a raffle prize drawing at the end of the event, so make sure to get your name into the drawing!
Griff Flix (optional event) – 9:00 p.m.; Spratt Stadium
Join us for a movie night under the stars! Soda and popcorn will be provided, plus this is a great opportunity to mingle with other Color Teams.
Personal Schedule Crawls and Grocery Runs (optional event) – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Various Locations
Worried about finding your classes the first week of school? Sign up for a personalized schedule crawl with one of our Griffon Edge Mentors (GEMs). Need to stock up on groceries after moving in, but not sure how to use the bus system? Sign up to go to the nearest grocery store with one of our GEMs.
Field Day: Partnership with Fraternity & Sorority Life (optional event) – 1:00 p.m.; Potter Hall Field
Get off your couch and join current students in a few hours of classic field day games! Make sure to wear comfy shoes and appropriate attire.
Griffon Glow (optional event) – 9:00 p.m.
This extreme paint party is all inclusive with a DJ, concert sound, lasers and lighting, glow bubbles, confetti, foam, fog and 75 gallons of UV paint. We suggest wearing a white shirt. Come ready for an amazing memory and a shower of neon paint! Click here for more info
Griffon Family Tailgate: Partnership with Athletics & Alumni (mandatory event) – 6:00 p.m.
Join the Griffon Family for your first tailgate experience! There will be free food, inflatables, face painting, and more. This is a great opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, current students, and alumni while learning how the tailgating experience works at Missouri Western.
New Student Convocation (mandatory event) – 7:30 p.m.
This is your official academic welcome to Missouri Western, and you will have the opportunity to see the faculty and staff support for your future Griffon experience. You will be introduced to the President, Provost, Deans, and student leaders. You will also learn about the quality of the programs offered at Missouri Western.
Class of Courage Candle Lighting Ceremony (mandatory event) – 8:15 p.m.
Join your fellow members of the Class of 2023 in a candle lighting ceremony around the Clock Tower.
