We’re so excited you’re interested in being a Transition Mentor! This page answers some frequently asked questions, details the application process, and explains the expectations of the role. If you have any questions about the roles or application process, contact the Events and New Student Program Coordinator.

Application Checklist

Before applying, you’ll want to be sure to understand the roles and expectations of being a Transition Mentor. The job description outlines the tentative dates required for each role, scholarship amounts, and more.

Job Description

All first-time applicants are required to attend an Information Session which will provide an in-depth review of each of the four Transition Mentor roles. Information Sessions are also a great way for those who are on the fence about applying to learn more and ask questions about the roles. Attendance doesn’t commit you to apply, come learn about the most fun job on campus!

All Information Sessions will be held live via Zoom at the following dates. The password to join the meeting is “GOgriffs”.

  • October 16th @ 1:30 p.m.
  • October 21st @ 5:00 p.m.
  • October 23rd  @ 1:30 p.m.
  • October 28th @ 5:00 p.m.

The general application for 2021- 2022 Transition Mentors is closed. We are still accepting applicants for 2021 Griffon Edge Mentors. To apply email Melissa Stallbaumer at mstallbaumer@missouriwestern.edu by February 1st.

Transition Mentor applications are due Sunday, November 1st at 11:59 p.m. The application will require an up-to-date resume. Did your stress levels rise? Are you lost on how to create a resume? The Career Center is offering a resume workshop on Thursday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. You can also take a look at some of the awesome online resources, or stop into the Career Center to have them review your resume and suggest changes!

The Career Center’s Resume Workshop will be October 15th at 2:00 p.m. on Zoom. You can join the session here using the passcode “974771”.

It takes a huge amount of teamwork to execute an effective event. Group interviews are an opportunity to showcase how applicants work in a group setting. Applicants should wear casual Griffon gear and come prepared to participate and contribute to team efforts. You’ll sign up for your group interview at the completion of your application. Spaces are limited, so complete your application early to ensure you have a time that works for your schedule.

Group Interviews are available at the following times  (spots are limited):

  • Wednesday, November 4th @ 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday November 5th @ 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, November 6th @ 9:30 a.m.
  • Friday, November 6th @ 1:30 p.m.

All first-time applicants will be required to complete an individual interview. Individual interviews are business casual dress and they will be conducted in Eder 101. Applicants will sign up for an individual interview time through their application.

Frequently Asked Questions

After selection, all first-year Transition mentors will attend a mandatory 10-week training curriculum in the spring semester. The weekly training will provide students with increased knowledge of the university and its resources, event management and customer service training, leadership skills, and personal development. Transition Mentors receive a $100.00 scholarship at the completion of all 10 training sessions.

No, unfortunately, our selection process occurs just once a year to accommodate the training required to hold the position. Please check back each October for updated application details.

Yes! School always comes first. We will schedule make-up training for anyone who has a class conflict for an alternate time.

You can apply to be an Orientation Leader or Griffon Edge mentor. Seniors graduating in December should not apply for a Student Ambassador or Showcase Leader role.
