Western League for Excellence

Western League for Excellence Brochure

The Missouri Western League for Excellence is an honorary donor society for donors who give undesignated gifts of $100 or more to the Missouri Western Annual Fund. It is at the cornerstone of Missouri Western’s fund raising efforts.

The Missouri Western League for Excellence was established by the MWSU Foundation for the purpose of demonstrating appreciation to alumni and friends of the University who give undesignated gifts, as well as to promote the concept of such giving.

Membership Levels

Western League for Excellence donors contribute $100 or more each year. In addition to being honorary members of the League, donors are recognized in divisions according to their level of contributed support.

  • Founder’s Circle ($5,000 or more each year)
  • Regent’s Circle ($1,000 to $4,999)
  • President’s Circle ($500 to $999)
  • Cabinet’s Circle ($250 to $499)
  • Dean’s Circle ($100 to $249)

Unrestricted Funds – Priority for Excellence

Contributions to the League are unrestricted. The gifts are not designated for a specific purpose, but are given to the Foundation to be used as most needed. They provide the flexibility to meet current needs of the University. The Foundation’s Board of Directors places a high priority on encouraging unrestricted giving.

How League Members Help the University

The financial resources received from these donors help provide funds for the Foundation’s projects in support of the work of the University. In addition, League members may demonstrate their interest in other ways. They stay informed about the progress at the University, promote the University among friends and potential students and, when possible, attend University events. A strong Western League for Excellence gives visibility to members’ support of the University, which often helps potential donors, faculty members, and students to have confidence in Missouri Western State University.

Member Benefits

Contributions by League members are unrestricted charitable gifts that are motivated by a desire to support the University’s mission, and the donors do not expect anything of material value in return. The most important dividend they receive as a result of their “investment” in the work of the University is the good feeling they have about themselves for having helped. Tax laws allow them to receive tax benefits as a result of their gifts and the Foundation takes special steps to keep them informed about the University’s achievements, programs and students.

Lifetime Memberships

League donors may be members for life when they contribute a sum large enough to endow the annual unrestricted contribution for the membership level in which they wish to be recognized. The Founder’s Circle requires an endowment of $125,000. The Regent’s Circle requires $25,000. The President’s Circle requires $12,500. The Cabinet’s Circle requires $7,500 and the Dean’s Circle requires $2,500.

Member Communications

To assist League members as advocates for Missouri Western, they will receive special correspondence from the President and Vice President of University Advancement to provide highlights from the campus. They will also receive the Western Magazine, e-mail notes and other publications. The League’s membership roster will be published in the MWSU Foundation’s Annual Report and other publications.

Income Tax Benefits

The Missouri Western State University Foundation is an IRS approved charitable organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Gifts to the Foundation are deductible when included among your itemized deductions on your federal income tax return. Donors should check their state tax laws to determine if additional tax savings are received as a result of their philanthropy.
