Richardson is a university alum with 24 years of experience spanning elementary education, reading and math intervention, coaching, and school administration. She currently serves as the department Chair and Director of Clinical Placement &amp; Certification, where she plays a vital role in preparing future educators for success in today\u2019s classrooms. Her research includes 3D Coaching and innovative strategies for equipping teachers to thrive in the modern educational landscape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This research examined how high school coaches perceive the effects of 3D Coaching\u2014a holistic coaching framework emphasizing physical skill (body), psychological development (mind), and relational\/character growth (heart)\u2014on their own coaching practices and on their student-athletes\u2019 behaviors and performance after one year of training in the model. Using qualitative interviews with eight coaches who had completed 3D Coaching training, the study found that participants became deeply familiar with the 3D framework and reported noticeable changes in how they coached; notably, athletes were observed to learn skills more quickly, show greater determination in executing skills, and demonstrate improved behavior and relationship quality with coaches. Adams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education at Mo West, as a Curricular Scholar, Education Foundations Scholar, and Multicultural Specialist. He is a graduate of Indiana University in Urban Education Studies and Teacher Education.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Adams was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Certificate of Excellence from Indiana University in 2014. In 2024, he received the Certificate of Outstanding Teacher Educator from Missouri Western State University and in 2025, he received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award for Exceptional Teaching Skills and Service to Students and the Community.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Adams is the author of eleven peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters. Dr. Adam\u2019s research interests include Teaching and Teacher Education, Learning and Instruction, Curriculum Studies, Teacher Education and Socialization, Diversity Studies, and Historical and Social Foundations of Education.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Dr. Benedict Adams<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This study was undertaken to capture the transformative changes in diversity and social justice to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thirty candidates during their very first course and clinical experience in a Teacher Preparation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Program. Using the four seasons approach to ethnography, I collected extensive data. The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analysis showed that changes in visions of diversity and social justice did take place in a fairly <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shorter time frame. Teacher candidates demonstrated cultural awareness, fluidity, and knowledge <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the self and others in a broader concept of the society after yearlong instruction and field <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experiences. Correspondingly, I used these major concepts that emerged and offer suggestions <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for teacher educators on how to proactively prepare candidates to authenticate diversity and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social justice within their classrooms in applied learning. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adams, B. This case study applied funds of knowledge as a theoretical framework to focus on how a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ninth-grade class with two qualified language arts teachers acquired new knowledge using five <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">types of funds of knowledge<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: academic and personal background knowledge, accumulated life <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experiences, world views, and skills in an Urban-Multicultural Classroom<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In a year-long effort, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I interviewed teachers and students, took field notes, collected instructional planning documents, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and photographed students\u2019 artifacts. style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ollie Bogdon, PhD, is an Associate Professor entering her 8th year with Mo West and earned her BS and MS degrees from Cornell University, researching an outreach conservation education program and gains in 5th grade standardized State testing scores; her PhD is from University of Missouri Kansas City where she researched use of conservation educational resources to supplement classroom teachings and teacher environmental attitudes. Dr. Bogdon&#8217;s strong science education background comes in part from her research and work with the American Zoo and Aquarium Association and having worked as an Educational Specialist with NASA.\u00a0 She enjoys providing rich community based applied learning experiences in her science education courses, along with teaching educational technology, developmental psychology, and supporting graduate students completing their Capstone Projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Bogdon serves on the Association of Science Teacher Education (ASTE), conference proposal review team, is a member of National Science Teaching Association&#8217;s (NSTA) Rural Advisory Board, and is a founding member of Kansas City Environmental Education Network (KCEEN) through Adrienne Johnson is a Professor in the Department of Education and an internationally recognized expert in supporting the academic and linguistic needs of multilingual students, from birth through adulthood. Dr. Johnson has degrees in linguistics, education, psychology, and Spanish and researches the factors that affect language acquisition and the academic success of multilingual learners. Dr. Johnson teaches graduate and undergraduate courses at MoWest related to TESOL, language development, and general education.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In a self-paced reading experiment which examines the processing of wh- dependencies, we examine whether native English speakers and Korean learners of English show qualitatively similar patterns and whether there is a relationship between working memory, as measured by counting span and reading span, and processing in both island and non-island contexts. The results of the self-paced reading experiment suggest that learners can use syntactic information on the same timecourse as native speakers, showing qualitative similarity between the two groups. Results of regression analyses did not reveal a significant relationship between working memory and the establishment of wh-dependencies in islands but we did observe significant relationships between working memory and the processing of licit wh-dependencies. However, the approaches used to meet this growing teacher training need vary widely, with little available research on how different approaches impact student success. The current paper uses geospatial mapping to examine how states\u2019 EL teacher certification requirements are related to the academic success of English learners in those states. The results of this study suggest that state EL teacher certification requirements are related to student outcomes and that geographic location moderates those results. for Teaching and Learning. Haruka specializes in early childhood education and her research focuses on the intersection of language and social emotional development in young children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The present study found that young children are impacted by classmates who have strong self-control, memory, and attention skills. Preschoolers in classrooms with higher overall executive function showed greater growth in their own math, and vocabulary over the school year. These peer effects were especially strong for low-income children who were learning two languages. Education students who participated in a short, school-based program showed a stronger understanding of constructivist teaching by the end of the course. While children in both classrooms improved in self-regulation, there were no clear differences between classrooms using the approach and those that did not. She\u00a0received her Bachelor of Science degree in special education from Truman State University in 1985. In 1992 she earned an MA in special education and in 1996 an EdS in educational administration, both from the University of Missouri. She earned her EdD in 1999 from Saint Louis University in the area of educational leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Malone\u2019s scholarship encompasses the shortage of Black teachers serving special education students, dismantling the self-fulfilling prophecy encroached upon students of color, uncovering the disparities of the graduate records exam concerning Black scholars, best instructional practices in higher education, and tackling the achievement gap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Malone is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and Black Women in Higher Education (Kansas City Chapter).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She is a proud, lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and is active in the Xi Tau Omega chapter in Grandview, Missouri. In addition, she serves on the board for Bridge Leadership Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Jennifer J. His courses are well-received by students, who describe his teaching as engaging and practical.\u00a0 He has also served as Department Chair and Assistant Dean, contributing to program leadership and development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before entering higher education, for more than two decades, he held key roles in public schools, including assistant superintendent for student learning (curriculum and instruction), elementary and secondary principal, and high school English teacher.\u00a0 This extensive background informs his commitment to bridging academics and practice for classroom and school improvement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Internationally, Dr. Shepherd has served as a U.S. Department of State Specialist, providing trauma-informed instruction training to educators in Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine. He has delivered popular keynote addresses and workshops to teachers and educational leaders in Colombia, Papua New Guinea, Honduras, Thailand, China, South Korea, and Singapore, focusing on teacher leadership, brain-friendly instruction, and relationship-centered pedagogy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An accomplished author, he wrote\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students of Trauma: A Handbook for Classroom Teaching in an Environment of Suffering<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and regularly publishes peer-reviewed articles in respected journals. Dr. Shepherd earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Ball State University and is dedicated to equipping educators with practical, research-based strategies that foster success for every student.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Shepherd is passionate about transforming teacher education by connecting coursework to real-world experiences that build confidence, appreciation, and professional readiness. In his 2024 JSSHE article, he demonstrates how an elementary social studies methods course can significantly improve pre-service teachers\u2019 attitudes toward the value, importance, and teachability of social studies through engaging, practical learning activities. Complementing this, his 2023 JALHE article highlights how school-based field placements immerse students in authentic classroom environments, reinforcing their understanding of coursework, increasing motivation, and inspiring commitment to becoming effective educators. associate professor at Missouri Western State University, teaching language and literacy development courses. \u00a0She also serves as Assessment Director for the Missouri Western Education Department. Liz received her Ph.D. in Education from Washington University in St. Louis in 2014.\u00a0 Her research considers education policy with a focus on school context and geospatial modeling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My research focuses on the policies around language and literacy learning&#8211; that is, what are the policies, what effects do they have, and how is that impacted by geospatial considerations.\u00a0 My recent research looks at the certification requirements for teachers and how that impacts student achievement across groups of students.\u00a0 My research shows that where the policy is enacted is correlated with the effects of the policy.\u00a0 My goal with this research is to identify what works where, and then to encourage stakeholders at all levels to focus on high impact requirements.\u00a0 Two of my recent publications address certification requirements for teachers of speakers of other languages (TESOL), which demonstrated\u00a0that requiring certain basic coursework is correlated with higher achievement by English Learners.\u00a0 This coursework has more impact in rural vs. urban areas, showing\u00a0that there are additional benefits in rural school districts.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thorne Wallington, E. &amp; Johnson, A.
