We will use this time to explore alternate methods of delivery for classes. We will make a determination by next Wednesday, March 18 regarding plans for the remainder of the semester.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have a responsibility to protect the health and welfare of our campus community, and we take this commitment very seriously. We would like to emphasize that <\/span><b>Missouri Western has <\/b><b>not<\/b><b> had any cases of COVID-19 on campus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and the decision to extend Spring Break was made as a precaution and in an effort to support nationwide efforts to help prevent its spread.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students should remain at their permanent address and not return to campus next week for classes or to move back into the residence halls.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Students who have extenuating circumstances regarding their on-campus housing should contact <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/143N0TIlokE1oFJgbytok2sMJscNc9ofwS7mMi-w4XOs\/edit?ts=5e6aac49\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student Affairs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Student employees should contact their supervisors for further information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>University offices will remain open and employees should continue to report to work.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Faculty members teaching face-to-face classes should start planning how to continue instruction through alternate methods in the event that the university decides to move away from in-person class delivery. Methods should include the use of Canvas, Panopto, Zoom, email or other means of communication.\u00a0 Academic leadership will be communicating with faculty to discuss available options. The IT department has created a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.missouriwestern.edu\/imc\/imc-resources\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">resource page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with information on various technology solutions available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your Missouri Western email will be our primary method of communication as this situation develops. Students should check their emails for messages from faculty about adjusted assignments. Faculty members will contact students with more information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On-campus events scheduled for next week have been cancelled, and we encourage employees to conduct meetings with off-campus individuals by phone or video conferencing. Continue watching your email for more information about your specific situation.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students, Faculty and Staff with underlying health conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unless notified otherwise, employees should continue to report to work as usual. At the same time, we recognize that some members of our campus community may be at a higher risk of infection.\u00a0 Individuals having underlying health conditions that place them at heightened risk should contact the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students \u2013 contact the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScZs6NjHpgY8jfZBVXjnOZUKk06aWOHe_XxfUSLKPWvZozv8Q\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disrupted Attendance Resource Team<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty \u2013 please work with your dean or department chair<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staff \u2013 please work with your immediate supervisor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Travel restrictions<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beginning immediately, all University-related international travel (whether previously approved or not) is hereby restricted until further notice. Domestic travel is strongly discouraged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Did You Travel During Spring Break?\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you return from spring break, if you have traveled to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/after-travel-precautions.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">high-risk area<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, please read the University\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">travel notice<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. As recommended by the City of St. Joseph Health Department and other medical authorities, the University will not allow students or employees who have traveled to areas flagged by the CDC or State Department onto campus and into classes unless they have stayed home for 14 days and show no sign of infection. Out of an abundance of caution, it is imperative that we take measures to preserve the health and safety of our campus community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are returning from a high-risk area, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/after-travel-precautions.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CDC guidelines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staying home for 14 days and avoiding contact with others. Do not go to work or school for this 14-day period.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Separating yourself from other people and animals in your home. Do not allow visitors. Keep your distance from others (about 6 feet or 2 meters).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Taking your temperature with a thermometer two times a day and monitoring for fever. Also watch for cough or trouble breathing.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not taking public transportation, taxis or ride-shares during this time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students who have questions or need assistance should contact <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student Affairs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScZs6NjHpgY8jfZBVXjnOZUKk06aWOHe_XxfUSLKPWvZozv8Q\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disrupted Attendance Response Team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Any employee who may be affected should contact their supervisor or HR as early as possible to discuss their particular situation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Advice for Everyone &#8212; How to Guard Against Coronavirus<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For general information, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-nCoV\/index.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Centers for Disease Control<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> have issued some recommended precautions for everyone that we wanted to share with the campus community :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Avoid contact with people who are ill.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating; after using the restroom; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Use an alcohol-based sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Missouri Western has placed additional hand sanitizer stations in various locations on campus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you need to see a medical professional, please call your doctor\u2019s office or hospital emergency room before visiting the healthcare facility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Also, The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has established a <\/span><b>24-hour hotline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for any questions related to the coronavirus.\u00a0 You may call (877) 435-8411. The hotline is being operated by medical professionals and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/about\/symptoms.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Symptoms of the disease<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> may be flu-like, ranging from mild to serious, and include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Person-to-person spread is occurring, though it is currently unclear exactly how and how easily it is transmitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have any questions, please contact the <\/span><b>24-hour hotline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at (877) 435-8411 or Missouri Western\u2019s Esry Student Health Center at (816) 271-4495.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Because the COVID-19 situation is still developing, please stay tuned for additional details and guidance as it becomes available.
