The internship supervisor regularly sends emails about internship opportunities that are available.<\/li>\n<li>Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MWSUComm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Communication and Journalism Facebook page<\/strong><\/a> for any postings regarding internships.<\/li>\n<li>Career Development lists internships on their <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/missouriwestern.joinhandshake.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">handshake site<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Search online! Search for internship opportunities within your field of interest. There are websites such as\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.internships.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internships.com<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that are great resources for helping you find a place to intern in your area.<\/li>\n<li>Know of a specific place you\u2019d like to intern? Contact them!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>What to do after I find an internship?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Work with the internship supervisor to complete the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/communication\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/168\/2021\/08\/Internship_Contract_Revised-May-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internship Agreement Form<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/communication\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/168\/2021\/08\/code-of-ethics-contract_revised.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Code of Ethics<\/a><\/strong>. Then bring the completed forms to Dr. James Carviou.<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Carviou will confirm that the internship and the student meet the requirements for a communication, strategic communication, or journalism internship and put in an override for the course.<\/li>\n<li>Register for the course!<\/li>\n<li>Access Canvas to access documents to complete the course and to know when and where you are required to turn in various documents.<\/li>\n<li>Work 40 hours for every credit hour you enroll. For example, if you are interning for 3 credits x 40 hours = 120 hours of contact hours at your internship are required.<\/li>\n<li>You must keep a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/communication\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/168\/2020\/05\/Sample-Log.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">log<\/a> <\/strong>of the dates, times, and activities of the work you do. These logs are due periodically, as stipulated in the canvas course, and must be signed by your internship supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>At the end of the semester provide your supervisor with the Performance Review Form that you will access in Canvas and ensure that Dr. Carviou receives the completed form.<\/li>\n<li>Write the essay based on the requirements outlined in the assignment in Canvas.<\/li>\n<li>Submit examples of your work to Canvas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for an internship a student must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have a minimum of 2.5 major GPA<\/li>\n<li>have completed at least 1 JOU or COM 200 level or above course<\/li>\n<li>approval of the department<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For any questions regarding internships please contact Dr. James Carviou at <a href=\"tel:+18162715605\">(816) 271-5605<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_4 1_4 fusion-one-fourth fusion-column-last\" style=\"width:25%;width:calc(25% -
