to the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Center for Service seeks to provide opportunities to learn and serve by connecting students to real world service within the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students can choose between two different service paths:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Community Volunteerism<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li Students can earn elective credits for their community service.<\/p><p>\u201cMeaningful service experience goes well beyond earning elective credits\u201d, Sigrist said. \u201cWe believe our students can gain experiences that will benefit them as they graduate and enter the workforce, while at the same time instill a lifelong passion for serving the community.\u201d<\/p><p>Sigrist graduated from Missouri Western with a Bachelor of Science Technology in Business Management\/Legal Studies. Her current time at Missouri Western started in 2015, serving as administrative assistant in the Department of Athletics, then Executive Associate to the President and Secretary to the Board of Governors before moving to her enrollment management role earlier this year.<\/p><p>Previously at Missouri Western, she served as an employee relations clerk, admissions counselor and director of the Pass the Power adult literacy program. Sigrist also worked for the St. Joseph School District for 10 years.<\/p><p>Sigrist is a member of Missouri Western\u2019s Gold Coat Club Board of Directors and a former member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Missouri Western\u2019s Center for Service is working on bolstering student volunteerism by offering free elective credits for community service.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"subscriber-only\"><p>According to Gary Clapp, Director of the Center for Service at Missouri Western, students can take a class, called University 201, where they can get involved with or create their own community-service projects to earn one elective credit for every 40 hours of volunteer work. \u201cYou have to take elective credits anyway,\u201d Clapp said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for people to reduce some of the cost associated with higher education.\u201d<\/p><\/div><div class=\"subscriber-only\"><p>The Center for Service currently has nine students going through the online orientation for University 201.
