Description: AFL-CIO Community Services is preparing to distribute shoes through their 2021 Soles for Christ Shoe Program and are in need of multiple volunteers to assure the program runs smoothly.

Soles for Christ is a program that enables any child in grades preschool through 12th in Andrew, Buchanan or Doniphan counties to receive a free new pair of shoes to start the upcoming school year. The program began in 2003 with over 200 pairs of shoes given away. In the 18 years of the program, 14,885 children have received a pair of shoes through this program.

Depending on the day of volunteering, job opportunities involve setting up and organizing shoes, registration, sizing and fitting shoes, or packing leftover shoes at the end of the event.

Requirements Prior to Service: Please contact Becky Gach @ 816-364-1131 / becky.gach@helpmenow.org to register and provide the exact times you will be working and your phone number. Volunteer are asked to work a minimum of at least 2 hours but are welcome to work as many hours as you would like.
