“Due to his excellent work ethic and outstanding internship experiences, Ben was offered a position at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.”

Major: Wildlife Conservation Management
Hometown: Lawson, Mo.

Ben has made the most of his college experience by completing three different internships in three years! While all of them had their unique challenges, they each had their payoffs.

His first internship was with Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, in Forest City, Mo. During his internship, Ben was responsible for patrolling the refuge and monitoring the animals as well as hosting a daily program for guests. After he completed his first internship, Ben went on to intern at the International Wolf Center, in Edly, Minn., where he was assigned the task of caring for abandoned wolf pups and educating the public about wolf behavior and wolf safety. He also assisted on a research project examining the behavior of trapped wolves. Lastly, he interned with Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem Project. Ben assisted with a 150-year-long project of mapping forest growth. He studied different bird species and how different management practices impact the way birds nest.

Due to his excellent work ethic and outstanding internship experiences, Ben was offered a position at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
