Wall mural for Murals for Minds

Mural by the Griffon Art Alliance

Griffon Art Alliance (GAA) members are dedicated to arts. This love of arts has lead them to come together to share their talents with fellow students at Missouri Western State University (MWSU) and the community in which they live and work.

GAA members have participated in many activities on campus and in St. Joseph. These include Student Government Association’s Murals for Minds that enlists the help of not only MWSU students but also the children and parents from the elementary schools involved. Members have also been involved in teaching art to juvenile offenders at the Riverbend Youth Authority Facility.

GAA holds annual events as well. A campus art exhibit is held to support student artists enrolled in art classes. The annual Chili/Pasta Bowl fundraiser features bowls created by students and professors. The faculty, staff and students prepare the food that fills these bowls. GAA participates in Homecoming events each fall.

GAA continues to expand and promote art on campus and community wide. This year a monthly Life Drawing event has been added for the community, students and staff to participate in using the models provided to practice their art. Participants can paint, draw, sculpt or photograph the models.
