Visiting Artist Dominique Goblet

13 September 2011, Comments: Comments Off

Belgian  artist and graphic novelist Dominique Goblet will be on the campus of Missouri Western State University from September 16th through October 2nd, 2011. Ms. Goblet is considered one of the premier graphic artists in Europe and is the author/illustrator of several highly-acclaimed graphic novels, including: Souvenir d’une Journée  Parfaite, Faire Semblant c’est Mentir, Les Hommes Loups and Chronographie. In 2010, Ms. Goblet was awarded the grand prize from the École Supérieure de l’Image and her work was featured in an exhibition entitled: Histoires Invérifiables at the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée,  as part of the International Comics Festival in Angouleme, France.

Each of the books is beautiful; Chronographie is particularly poignant as it documents Ms. Goblet’s and her daughter Nikita Fossul’s 10 years of bi-weekly portraits of each other (Fossoul was seven years old when the project began and Goblet was thirty-one). What comes across to the audience is the inquisitiveness, the patience, the bond between mother and daughter and life being lived and shared.

Ms. Goblet will be speaking about her work and working with students at Missouri Western State University. Additionally, she will speak at Northwest Missouri State University and the Kansas City Art Institute. For further information and specific times for lectures, please contact Geo Sipp, Director of the Potter Gallery at Missouri Western State University.
