2026 on the campus of Missouri Western State University.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"line-height: 1.5; text-align: left;\" data-fontsize=\"20\" data-lineheight=\"30px\">Topic: From Doing to Becoming: Human Skills as the Heart of Applied Learning<\/h3>\n<div>Applied learning is often, and rightly, celebrated for giving students valuable \u201creal-world experience,\u201d yet the real world\u2014workplaces, offices, the spaces where we earn our living\u2014tests not only our technical knowledge and professional expertise, but also the noncognitive capacities that make us effective human beings. R.J. Jenkins has spent much of the past decade helping people rethink what we traditionally call \u201csoft skills\u201d\u2014empathy, vulnerability, emotional intelligence, growth mindset, and the ability to navigate impostor feelings\u2014and undertand them instead as the executive functions that make us capable of success in higher education and workforce settings. Jenkins is a civilian veteran-serving professional who has dedicated his career to building stronger cultures of support for veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The Director of Education for the Columbia University Center for Veteran Transition and Integration, R.J. helps aspirational colleges, universities, employers, and veteran service organizations across the country build their capacity to support veterans, service members, and their families in the classroom and in their careers. In addition to his work with student veterans, R.J. has deep professional experience teaching, advising, and counseling first-generation college students, nontraditional students, adult learners, and student athletes. including time for questions (15 for talk and 5 for questions). The Conference will provide a podium, presentation computer, mic, and projector. Presentations should be prepared in PowerPoint or Google slides and may be displayed from a memory stick or accessed from a Cloud-based drive. While a limited number of Mac interface cables will be available, it is recommended that you bring one if you will be using a Mac. If you would like to display from your own laptop you are welcome to do so, though it will need to be HDMI capable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Poster Presentations<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Posters should be no more than 48&#8243; x 48&#8243; in size. The Conference will provide easels, poster boards, and thumbtacks. Presenters should plan to put their posters up 5-10 minutes prior to the beginning of the session and should be available at their poster to engage in discussion during the poster session. Poster sessions will run for 60 minutes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Roundtable Discussions<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Roundtable discussions should be designed to last no longer than 30 minutes. The Conference will provide a presentation computer, mic, and projector. Wireless microphones will be available to facilitate discussion and Q&amp;A. Roundtable presenters are responsible for providing any handouts, flyers, etc. that may be distributed to session attendees.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Workshops<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Workshops should be designed to last no longer than 50 minutes and should seek to engage the attendee in the workshop topic.
