The Legal Studies Association is sponsoring Missouri Western\u2019s second International Human Rights Day Celebration on Nov. 29 with two events in the Blum Union:<\/p>\n
1. Human Rights Fair:
\nStudent Poster Presentations on human rights issues will be set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upstairs\u00a0 and downstairs halls of Blum Union. There will be approximately 30 posters from Social Work, Criminal Justice and Legal Studies classes. Students are working on projects, which emphasize human rights within a local and global context in several classes. Projects will include readings and research related to local and global human rights issues.<\/p>\n
2. Panel Discussion
\nMyanmar Applied Learning Experience:
\nEmpowering Law Students, Teachers and the Community, Blum 218-219, 1-2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
This panel will discuss how Missouri Western faculty and students worked to empower law students, teachers and the Taunggyi community to improve access to justice. The panel members, which include two Missouri Western students who traveled to Myanmar with Dave Tushaus, professor of legal studies, will draw on their experiences in Myanmar to help demonstrate concepts transferable to other situations. The panel will discuss a variety of non-government organizations\u2019 work across Myanmar to improve legal education and access to justice.<\/p>\n
