Madison and her class had just finished approximately one month of school when Hurricane Florence struck. New Bern is right on the coast and was featured in weather channel photos because of the town\u2019s extensive flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Madison said her school\u00a0had some water damage from the rain, but no flooding, but one school in the district had 90% of the students lose their home\/apartment and another school had 50% lose their home\/apartment.<\/p>\n<p>She reached out to Missouri Western\u2019s Department of Education and asked them if they would hold a school supply drive for her school district. Below is the list of needed supplies. The department is collecting items and will also accept monetary donations until this Wednesday, Oct. 17.<\/p>\n<p>backpacks<br \/>\nearbuds \/ headphones<br \/>\n4 GB (or larger) flash drives<br \/>\npocket folders with brads<br \/>\ncomposition notebooks<br \/>\n#2 pencils<br \/>\npencil sharpeners<br \/>\nerasers<br \/>\npencil bags<br \/>\nblue \/ black \/ red ink pens<br \/>\nglue sticks<br \/>\nglue bottles<br \/>\nhighlighters (any color)<br \/>\ncolored pencils \u2013 12 pack<br \/>\ncolored markers \u2013 not permanent<br \/>\nrulers \u2013 30 cm, wooden<br \/>\nindex cards \u2013 3 x 5 100 count lined<br \/>\n3-ring binders<br \/>\npost-it notes<br \/>\nScotch tape<br \/>\ncolored construction paper<br \/>\nChlorox or Lysol wipes<br \/>\ntissues<br \/>\nhand sanitizer<\/p>\n<p>Please bring donations to 111 Murphy Hall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 2018 alumna, Madison Romjue, is a special education teacher\u00a0in New Bern, North Carolina.
