Student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative.\u00a0 Setting aside a special week to draw the awareness of others, both on and off campus, is the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation. National Student Employment Week will take place at Missouri Western State University April 8-12, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>April 9: Professional Image Project; 2:00-4:00 pm; Remington Lobby<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Professional Image Project is a casual event (with FREE pizza and prizes) structured like an information fair, showcasing topics related to professionalism and career development. Part-time openings available at MWSU and St. Joseph companies will be advertised.\u00a0FREE professional head shots will be provided to students during this event.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Table Topics Include:<\/p>\n<p>Financial Literacy<\/p>\n<p>Resume Review<\/p>\n<p>Interview &amp; Handshakes<\/p>\n<p>Self-Care<\/p>\n<p>Networking<\/p>\n<p>Online Image<\/p>\n<p>Personal and Professional Appearance<\/p>\n<p>Etiquette<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Available to all Missouri Western students to attend. Sponsored by the Student Employment Program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>April\u00a011: 6 Ways to Flip your Script for Leadership Success presented by Dr. William Gentry<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His book &#8220;&#8221;Be The Boss Everyone Wants to Work For: A Guide For New Leaders&#8221; will be given free to the first 180 students who attend this event.\u00a0 Event details will be included on the Career Development Center&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.missouriwestern.edu\/student-services\/career-development\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaker bio:<\/p>\n<p>William A. (Bill) Gentry, Ph.D.\u00a0is the Director of Career and Professional Development at High Point University where he is responsible for partnering with employers to create internship opportunities for current High Point University students, and employment opportunities or grad school placement upon their graduation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a researcher and practitioner, Dr. Gentry examines what leaders, notably first-time managers, can do to be successful and avoid derailment, and how organizations can build a healthy leadership pipeline by focusing on first-time, frontline and entry-level managers and supervisors. As a keynote speaker for conferences and events, he informs and inspires leaders, particularly entry- and first-level supervisors and managers who are leading for the first time to be their best.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During his career, Dr. Gentry has amassed more than 70 academic presentations and has published more than 40 academic articles. In addition, he and his research has been featured in more than 50 Internet and news outlets including Forbes.com, the\u00a0Wall Street Journal, CNN.com,\u00a0Harvard Business Review,\u00a0Chief Learning Officer, ChiefExecutive.net, Toastmasters, and TrainingIndustry.com. He wrote the cover article to the July 2017 edition of\u00a0TD Magazine\u00a0focusing on first-time managers and new leaders (From Me to We). Dr. Gentry has also used his passion for research and developing first-time managers to write the highly acclaimed book\u00a0Be the Boss Everyone Wants to Work For: A Guide for New Leaders\u00a0(Berrett-Koehler Publishers).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before coming to High Point University, Bill worked for more than a decade at the Center for Creative Leadership, a top-ranked global provider of executive education and leadership development as a researcher, trainer, and manager. Bill graduated summa cum laude from Emory University, and earned his M.S and Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology from the University of Georgia.
