Scholarships

Each year, Missouri Western awards students an average of $4,677 in scholarships and grants. There are two types of scholarship offered: competitive scholarships, which you must apply for by set deadlines, and automatic scholarships, which are awarded at the time of admission based on your previous academic record.

Freshman Scholarships (Automatic)
These scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are based on a combination of academic requirements. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years and are stackable with other scholarships.

Governors' 23 ACT and a 3.00 GPA $2,600
Deans' 20 ACT and a 3.00 GPA $1,000

HONORS STUDENTS: Students who have a 27 ACT and a 3.5 GPA should apply for the competitive Golden Griffon Scholarship worth $7,500 annually. For more info, go to the Honors Program website.
Out-of-State Scholarships (Automatic)
These scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are based on a combination of academic requirements. These scholarships are renewable for all four years at Missouri Western and are stackable with other scholarships.

Wait: Did you know that we have a special tuition rate for certain counties in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas and Nebraska? You may be eligible for our Griffon Rate which is the same as in-state tuition! Visit our Griffon Rate website for a full list of counties to see if you qualify.

    college-level coursework.

  • Griffon Rate students do not qualify.
  • Equivalent to difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.
    Midwest Student Exchange
  • Freshman: 21 ACT & 3.00 GPA,
    resident of IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, ND, NE, or WI.

  • Transfer Student: 3.00 GPA for all
    college-level coursework.

  • No campus living requirement

  • Not stackable with neighboring States.

  • Griffon Rate students do not qualify.
  • Students will be charged no more than 150% of the in-state tuition rate.
    Frontier
  • Freshman: 23 ACT, resident of any other
    state not included in the Neighboring States or Midwest Student Exchange.

  • No campus living requirement.
  • $1,500
    International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholarships
    International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholarships are awarded to students who have completed specific IB certificate/diploma requirements and require an official IB diploma to be submitted to Missouri Western. These scholarships are renewable for all four years at Missouri Western and are stackable with other scholarships except for the automatic academic scholarships.

    Competitive Scholarships (Separate Application Required)
    The secret to securing competitive scholarships is watching the deadlines and taking time to apply! You can apply for these scholarships through your One Stop portal, unless otherwise noted.

    A+ Scholarship Missouri A+ Certified students with a 3.00 GPA or higher may apply for one of our $1,500 A+ Scholarships which are competitively awarded. This scholarship is renewable for all four years at Missouri Western. March 1
    Golden Griffon Academic Scholarship The largest competitive scholarship that we offer for students with outstanding academic ability is the Golden Griffon Scholarship worth $7,500 per year. Apply through the Honors Program page. Feb. 1
    Edith Brown Scholarship This competitive book scholarship is awarded annually to first generation college students, students with financial need, or students who have participated in Upward Bound, Talent Search, 21st Century, or similar program. Preference will be given to students living in the residence halls and those with a record of good character and service to their community. The one-time scholarship is worth up to $500. March 1
    Departmental/Foundation Scholarships A substantial number of competitive scholarships are available from a variety of sources. There are scholarships for your academic ability, participation in community service, and academic interests. For most competitive scholarships, there is a single application which is available through your One Stop portal. For more information about these scholarships, please visit our Financial Aid page.     Army ROTC Scholarships
    These scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are based on a combination of academic requirements. These scholarships are renewable for all four years at Missouri Western and are stackable with other scholarships.

    Provost's 25 ACT and either a 3.25 GPA or top 15% class rank $3,000
    Governors' 23 ACT and either a 3.00 GPA or top 25% class rank $1,500
    Dean's 21 ACT $1,000

    HONORS STUDENTS: Students who meet the criteria for the President's Scholarship (above) should apply for the Golden Griffon Scholarship worth $7,500 annually. This is a competitive scholarship, and you can apply through the Honors Program website. Deadline to apply is February 1.
    Transfer Scholarships (Automatic; Separate Application Required )
    These scholarships are awarded upon receipt of final academic transcripts from ALL prior institutions and are based on a combination of academic requirements. These scholarships are renewable for up to two years and are stackable with out-of-state scholarships and competitive scholarships. Apply through your One Stop portal.

    Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) 60 credit hours from a 2-year college and member of PTK $3,500
    President's 60 credit hours from a 2-year college and 3.50 cumulative GPA $3,000
    Governors' 60 credit hours from a 2-year college and 3.00 cumulative GPA $1,500
    4-Year Transfer 24 credit hours from a 4-year college or university and a 3.25 GPA $1,000
    All-Missouri MOCCA/PTK Team Members: You can receive an additional $2,000 in scholarship money! Contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@missouriwestern.edu for more details.

    Missouri Western State University wants to making the possibility of higher education a reality by providing over 230 scholarships, both competitive and automatic. 

    Competitive Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded automatically based on your previous academic record and do not require a separate application. If you improve your ACT or GPA, you will be automatically upgraded to a higher level scholarship if funds are still available. You should have been notified in your acceptance letter if you qualified for any of the automatic scholarships.

    Competitive Scholarships: We offer over 230 competitive scholarships. The competitive scholarship application is required for the Golden Griffon, Alumni and A+ scholarships. To be eligible for these scholarships, you will need to complete the scholarship application by accessing your Goldlink account
