What is an Internship?

  • An internship is a practical experience, which is related to the student’s academic field of study. It gives a student an opportunity to apply in a real work setting what he/she has learned in the classroom. Simply put, an internship is applied learning.

  • A collaboration between the university and corporations where students participate in an applied learning experience for academic credit.

  • A learning opportunity where students gain hands-on experience in their field while providing the employer with valuable expertise.

How do I set up an internship?

  • Faculty meet with the student and the company to set objectives that the student must meet in order to fulfill the requirements of the internship.

  • Companies provide what is needed for the student to meet the objectives and they evaluate the progress made.

  • The internship program serves as a resource for employers’ special projects as well as on-going research and development.

  • Companies offering internships show a commitment to higher education and the community by offering opportunities to tomorrow’s leaders.
