Spanish at MWSU

The Spanish section at MWSU offers degrees in Spanish and also double majors and minors that accompany another Bachelor of Arts degree. Learning Spanish provides the unique opportunity to enlarge and enrich abilities to communicate, understand, and live in other diverse cultures and societies. Besides adding  specific training and study habits for studying other disciplines, the study of the Spanish language and cultures is part of specific careers and degrees, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Spanish is the second language spoken in the US (MLA statistics), and it is among the first five largely spoken in the world. Through the knowledge of the Spanish language and cultures, the links between the ancient history of Spain, the history of Latin America, as well as other countries and regions, such as North Africa and Filipinas, are contextualized for a better understanding of world politics.

In the current cultural, demographic, sociopolitical, ecological, and economic maps, integrating is the path rather than separating, opposing, or prevailing. Adding knowledge through the recognition and enjoyment of difference offers a better training for the current social transformations. Specialization and adaptation are not opposed to the very concept of integral knowledge, making language Spanish, as well as the knowledge of Spanish cultures, an essential tool to work in the field of Political Sciences, International Relations, Economy, Business, Health Sciences, Education, and Law.
