Migrant English Language Learning

Hello and welcome to the MELL (Migrant English Language Learning) website.  I am Krista Grinder-Dettloff , MELL Instructional Specialist, providing direct services to schools in the following counties in northwest Missouri; Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Harrison, Holt, Nodaway, Platte, and Worth.  These are exciting times in education and I appreciate the opportunity to support high quality, comprehensive, and collaborative educational programs for migrant and immigrant children and youth to meet the same challenging Missouri academic content and achievement standards for ALL children.

Collectively our schools continue the journey in the development of our Professional Learning Community as we meet the demands of high levels of student achievement.  In support of meeting these demands, my general responsibilities include assisting school districts build their capacity through professional development activities and on-site consultation.  Some examples of service priorities and program deliverables include

  • Deliver training, consultation, technical assistance, professional development, and coaching specific to the instruction of migrant and English language learners to all schools consistent with the MELL program.
  • Deliver assistance to districts in understanding and complying with all state/federal regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance and professional development to districts within the region who did not meet their yearly AMAO targets for Title III and non-public schools that reside in those districts.  This may include schools working with local Accountability Teams.
  • Participate and/or lead regional and state-wide training.

Contact information is included in the right column of this page.  An invitation to be included in our Professional Learning Community is extended to all who are in concert with our MELL priorities as we expand our community of learners.
