Missouri Western Regional Professional Development Center
Mission
Build the capacity of educators and schools to maximize student performance through high quality professional development.
Welcome Back!
Summer passed all too quickly and the new academic year is upon us. There is always that excitement and anticipation that builds with each new school year and we hope you all have a very rewarding year. We are here to help with all your professional development needs.
This summer was a busy time for the MW RPDC as we spearheaded the renovation of Blum 114 to become the leading edge in technology. This room serves as both a Distance Learning Lab and Professional Development Room. We are excited at all the opportunities it opens up for us and the University.

Entrance to the MW RPDC Professional Development Room
located in Blum Union 114

Besides the new Promethian Board new, smaller, tables allow for diverse seating arrangements for different types of Professional Development/Distance Learning programs. Large LCD sceeen TV's will be arriving soon. New carpet, ceiling, curtains, chairs and paint made the renovation complete.

While addressing the needs of our new PDR room this summer we also converted one of our offices in Hearnes 101 into a conference room which allows us to accommodate meetings, interviews, conference calls, etc.

Congratulations to Missouri Professional Development!
The Commissioner recently received notice from the National Staff Development Council that Missouri has been chosen to participate in a study of exemplary professional development programs. Stephanie Hirsch, Executive Director of the National Staff Development Council, and Dr. Linda Darling‐Hammond, Charles Ducommun Professor of Education at Stanford University, notified Dr. Nicastro by letter stating, “On behalf of the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) and Stanford University, we are excited to inform you that Missouri has been selected as one of four states to be profiled in a collection of case studies highlighting exemplary professional development policies and/or practices.”
This honor speaks highly of the professional development offered by Missouri especially in terms of the Regional Professional Development Centers. The work and organization of professional development by the RPDC’s is somewhat unique in the nation. Not all states have this structure.
Being recognized by the NSDC and professors/national speakers, such as Linda Darling-Hammond, is an honor and should send a message to legislators and education leaders that the RPDC’s provide an invaluable and nationally recognized service to the school districts in Missouri.
We should commend the education planners of the past for having the vision of the Regional Professional Development Centers and praise the educational leaders of today that protect and defend the excellent work imparted by these centers to our teachers and administrators in the State of Missouri. |
