Prairie Lands Writing Project (PLWP) was selected by the National Writing Project as one of six, national seed sites to test and disseminate information about what it means to "write, learn, and teach in a digital world." Our 2005-2006 "Technology Mentor Project" involved a cadre of PLWP Teacher Consultants--teachers who employ and/or are not adverse to employing digital tools in their teaching--who served as mentors to Western's English pre-service teachers as they developed lesson plans for language arts classes involving students' use of digital tools. Jane Frick, English education professor and PLWP site director, was the project coordinator.

During the fall 2005 semester, students in ENG 465 English Teaching Methods and Materials created WebQuests based on texts commonly taught in secondary English classes. In two real-time meetings and through email; the students' mentors provided suggestions, feedback, and assessments regarding their mentees' WebQuests.
