"Weaving Threads of Change: Revisioning Writing in Rural Landscapes" Conference
Two Prairie Lands Writing Project Teacher Consultants made presentations at the NWP's Rural Sites Network “Weaving Threads of Change: Revisioning Writing in Rural Landscapes,” conference held in Albuquerque, NM, in March. Teachers from throughout the country heard Rebecca Dierking, Maryville High School English teacher, describe the Celebrating Rural Poetry project she coordinated for Prairie Lands: northwest Missouri poetry writing contest for area high school students which resulted in a public reading, CD, and chapbook publication of area mentor poets and student winners. Also presenting at the conference was Valorie Stokes, Platte Country R-III High School media coordinator, who described the Textual Illuminations Project [TIP] institutes and web site she has facilitated/created in her PLWP work with northwest area teachers in improving their reading comprehension teaching strategies.
