Eighty-seven of St. Joseph’s top elementary students from 20 different schools learned to “Live, Love, Write” at this summer’s elementary writing camp, sponsored by Prairie Lands Writing Project and the St. Joseph School District.

“Where Writing Hides…” Middle School Writing Camp was held at Missouri Western State University for four weeks this summer, and taught creative writers going into 8th and 9th grade from around the St. Joseph area. The camp taught campers to dig deeper to find more original ideas and look closely at where writing really hides in their world and how they could find it.

Eighty seven campers, grades three through six, came from elementary schools all over the St. Joseph area for four weeks this summer to attend “Rockin’ Writers” Youth Writing Camp 2011 at Missouri Western State University. 

Ann Dotson, director of the writing camp and a sixth grade teacher at St. Joseph Skaith Accelerated Elementary, said the camp is important to students to help further develop their writing skills.

The “Writers Under Construction” campers came from elementary schools all over the city of St. Joseph, grades three through six, and gathered at Missouri Western State University from May 24– June 17.

During the month of June 2009, PLWP welcomed nine middle school students onto the Missouri Western campus for the "CyberWriters: Publishing Our Generation" middle school writing camp.

During the month of June 2008, PLWP welcomed 27 middle school students onto the Missouri Western campus for the "Draw Your Own Conclusions…" middle school writing camp.

Flocks of aspiring writers (103 students) found themselves living the college life, at the "Writers in Progress" elementary camp on the campus of Missouri Western during June. 

For the month of June 2007, ninety three elementary and twenty-four middle school students attended writing camps at Missouri Western State University. The camps were organized by Prairie Lands Writing Project and funded by the St. Joseph School District.
