Four Room Poem

Kids step slowly out of cars
Butterflies in my stomach as camp begins
Will I be in trouble if my spelling isn't perfect?
Writing is important for everyone.

The lobby of Eder Hall fills up
Some of us felt squashed
Why is Camp held at Missouri Western instead of at a regular school?
A new experience, new friends

Kids all talking to their friends, anxious to get to Murphy Hall
Excitement and happiness every morning
Why was I chosen for this camp?
I've made more friends, and found out its fun to write with friends.

Lots of pencils chattering on pages of our journals
Literature circles meeting, even spilling out into the lounge area for conversations
How does reading and literature circles fit into a writing camp?
Writing isn't easy.

The football stadium, science building, the clock tower
Exploring new buildings on campus, sitting and taking time to write
Is this cool, or what?
Adding sensory detail to my writing makes it come to life.

Beautiful flowers, art galore
Anticipation, hoping that the museum trip would be different than fifth grade
Will we all fit on one bus?
Inspiration for writing comes from many different places.

Eager faces, eager readers for open mic
Inspiration from hearings others read their work
Will there be a writing camp every summer?
Writing is a window to my heart.

Droopy Monday morning eyes
Surprised that four weeks could go by so fast
Is there a writing camp for seventh grade?
Writing makes me expand my thinking.
