National Day on Writing
October 20, 2009

To draw attention to the daily practice of millions of Americans and to celebrate the diversity of writing these citizens engage in, the National Council of Teachers of English has established October 20, 2009 as the National Day on Writing.

Whether you are a student, a teacher, a parent, a grandparent, a business owner, a white– or blue-collar employee, or even a legislator, writing is an important part of your life. You write daily for lots of reasons—whether for your job, for your teacher, or for pleasure. You also write in a large number of mediums—from grocery lists and text messages to blogs, memos, and emails; from letters, essays, and reports to stories and poems.

Join millions of writers as we celebrate the National Day on Writing here in Northwest Missouri. We invite you to write before, during, and after the day and to submit  a piece of writing—any kind of writing—to our local, digital Gallery of Writing. Prizes will also be awarded to the most ingenious, interesting, vivid works.
