Jennifer and Suzanne’s workshop had their participants
experience “jamming” to text (similar to jamming to music), and learning how jamming
may be used as an informal assessment tool to save grading time while
simultaneously generating mini-lesson topics for readers’ and writers’
workshop.
Jennifer teaches at Westview
Elementary, Lee’s Summit R-VII
School District. Suzanne Forman teaches at Kearney
High School, Kearney
R-I School District.
All Grade Levels
*In this session, Suzanne and Jennifer will focus on brief magazine and newspaper articles (the things people read most once they are done with school)—how writers write them, and how editors format them to get the audience to think, talk, and act upon the information presented in the article. Such articles are great for “quick mini-research” projects, paragraph building without a formula, and purposeful writing with an authentic audience in mind. Come prepared to read, think, share, listen, think, write, share, listen, think…does it ever end? In addition to the samples used in the session, you will also walk away with another packet of samples ready to take into the classroom.
