activities include writing photo captions; writing headlines; writing
classified ads; writing news stories; identifying new vocabulary words and
suing them in sentences.

*After a brief overview of the newspaper, Diane will present a number of ways to use the newspaper as a writing resource. Some of the activities will include writing photo captions; writing headlines; writing a biography based on information in an obituary; writing classified ads for stuffed animals; writing a news story to include the who, what, when, where, and why of a set of events; identifying new vocabulary words and using them in sentences and paragraphs; using comics to change questions into sentences; expanding phrases into full sentences; writing words to a strip based on the pictures only; identifying contractions; and a variety of other activities. The newspaper is full of writing activities, and Diane will guide you through some creative ways to use it.
